Girl, 5, scolds 'naughty' hijacker

2012-10-29 08:30

Pretoria - A 5-year-old girl who was in her mother's car when it was hijacked by an armed man told the criminal he was being naughty and should take the car back to her mother.

Meanwhile the little girl’s mother, Wendy Lombart, 27, was mad with worry about Angie who had still been strapped into the back seat when she pulled the car out of their Silverton, Pretoria, garage and had a man with a gun tell her to back away, reported Beeld.

Lombart told Beeld how she tried to open the door and yelled: “Can I please just take out my child?” but had the gun pointed at her and was told to back off.

But little Angie was far from frightened and later explained how she had told the hijacker he “was naughty” and should take the car back.

She also said she kept asking the hijacker where he was going with the car and if he was going to take it back to her mother.

When he dropped her off by the side of the road only a few blocks from home, she protested and said she wanted him to take her - and the car - back to her mom.

She apparently tried to open the door again to get back in, ordering him: “Take me back home!” and told him he was being naughty.
A resident called the police and Angie was returned to her mother, safe and sound.

“She was very brave, she didn’t even cry,” said her relieved mother.

      antebellum.axiom - 2012-10-29 11:19

Meme are you talking about the girl or the hijacker?

      vambozha.mutemi.9 - 2012-10-29 11:26

Brave girl...more intelligent than these savages. They must try to take mine then they will regret the day their parents slept together and the sperm wasted its energy running down the tubes to ovulate the egg. I have auto rifles on my drivers sit right in front of ma balls especially this coming festive season its all about who shoots first

      maree.cassie - 2012-10-29 15:55

This little girl deserves a High Five...

      mable.jacobs.90 - 2012-10-30 07:28

Should read "Girl, 5, scolds kills hijacker"

      squeegee.pilot - 2012-10-30 07:37

Mememan, that is really bad logic. She did really well, acted bravely and recognized bad behavior; but this is more likely good parenting than a blanket "people are born good."

      marc.hugo.75 - 2012-10-30 08:10

Wonderful!! This little girl has a deep seated sense of right and wrong!! That won't suit the ruling ANC junta at all!!

  • lisableeker1 - 2012-10-29 08:39

Thank heavens for the good luck!!

What a sweet little girl. Pity we live in a rotten world !

      kala.bafazi - 2012-10-29 11:29

art - Maybe you should change your nick to art5UK or art5AUS or art5NZ or art5USA. Just saying...

      handy.andy.3990 - 2012-10-29 15:29

@Art - read the Sydney Herald or Times or whatever the hell they have in the boring country you now live in. Life in SA may be cheaper, but at least we stay with our families and fight together. You have lost the right to comment when you left (or shall I say ran away)

      werner.m.strydom - 2012-10-29 20:09

I for one don't see the shame in leaving this rotten country. Seems every time an expat comments, he is jumped by SA citizens all too happy to proclaim his crime in being a 'traitor'. I had a friend who was proudly South African, in the very sense of the word - learned some African languages, had friends from all races and backgrounds, and always fought for her country. Until she was hijacked. The trauma of not knowing whether you are going to see the light of day tomorrow is enough to make you realize some hard truths. There comes a point where you realize your life is worth more than your national pride.

      jandaniel.joubert - 2012-11-27 07:26

@ Handy.andy.3990 How do you do maths that you got to the conclusion that life in SA is cheap? (or did you mean 'a' life?) As far as I know life in Oz is much cheaper than in SA.

  • PrettyUsefulArt - 2012-10-29 08:42

I was about to say 'aw cute' when I read the headline, but then realised how awful the story actually is, and how differently it could've ended.

  • rahil.khanna.520 - 2012-10-29 08:43

What a sweet innocent girl, pity we live in a rotten world, that she has to go through something of this nature.

I think 5year old girls like strawberry milkshakes. The double think strawberry milkshakes. ;-)

  • shane.asselbergs - 2012-10-29 08:44

Wow, I hate to think of what could have happened to the poor little girl. I think she got away quite luckily in spite of her bravery. You know, I can forgive a hungry man for stealing a loaf of bread to feed himself, but these guys completely lack any empathy for any other human being, and while criminal psychologists can try and reason as much as they like about how they are a product of circumstance and environment, I still feel that they had the opportunity to make a choice between right and wrong and willfully chose wrong full-knowing of the consequences but without regard for them.

  • josie.russell.10 - 2012-10-29 08:47

      kyle.mclaren1 - 2012-10-29 13:44

Arm yourself!! Make security a way of life. Sad, but the only way to protect yourself as it is inevitable that we will all face a situation with a violent criminal.

A hijacker would have to shoot me before taking my child.

      traceyleesweetpea - 2012-10-29 09:17

We were in a hijacking in 97 my ex husband said the same thing....they shot him! Still they took my son out but nearly killed his father...$my son was almost killed by the stray bullets flying everywhere. Its best to stay calm and under control as horrible as it is...

      gerda.vanrooyen.39 - 2012-10-29 10:13

Boyvandie, this sorry excuse for a human being (?) will shoot anybody for anything, and this is unfortunately the sad case of things that's happening in SA. He will shoot you and take your child. He doesn't give a s***.

      bronwyn.tredger - 2012-10-29 11:08

      They normally do..and worse!

  • vic.carrots - 2012-10-29 09:37

God is using people like us (especially the little ones) to show us he's not left us yet. God gave this little girl a supernatural power to face this monster. All God needs from us is to get rid of Satan himself and his soldiers just like hijackers/rapists/murderers/ etc. I mean all those who're doing unGoldy acts.

  • mshiniboys - 2012-10-29 09:38

hehehehehehehehehe I think this was just a more understanding hijacker who happens to be human and needs money. Not a drug addict because if that was the case we would be singing a different tune as we speak. We must be grateful that there are people who, no matter what they do, still care about our children. - 2012-10-29 10:00

@mshiniboys .... have you been drinking?? "he needed MONEY???" If you NEED money you find an honest JOB!! OR you sell the fricken GUN to get money... He is nothing other than a professional cowardly criminal!!

      mshiniboys - 2012-10-29 10:14

I was just saying that against the fact that there are different kinds of criminals.I am not willing to believe that you would rather he killed the girl and left the car.Is that how you think? that people are less important than cars? - 2012-10-29 10:24

My thinking is that you cannot 'humanise' a criminal coward!! That's the problem in this country, there is too much sympathy for criminals, they should be treated like the filth that they are!!

      maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-10-29 11:10

A case like this highlights the very real need for job creation in SA and to take good care of our children so that they have morals. A lot of criminals are driven there by desperation.

      mshiniboys - 2012-10-29 11:14

But the fact remains...if by any reason you do something stupid and fight when someone wants your car you will not live to regret it.The point is criminals do exist with or without my support. If I say they are dogs that they are then good but that does not solve the root problem about flaws in our constitution and society. And of course joblessness and commodification of food and water.Natural things that a human being can not survive without that have become expensive for the jobless. You like my statement or not but the life we live requires people to act like animals.pity Im talking to someone who does not know the definition of an empty stomach.I mean really empty stomach now...Ive been there and came back but I hate crime because I am where I am today because of myself and just taking good example from certain community members. No parents no money just handwork.

  • lskosana3 - 2012-10-29 09:39

  • sihlangu.hokweni - 2012-10-29 09:46

This was clearly not one of those violent killer-hijackers-All he wanted was the car UNLIKE THE ANIMALS IN SPRINGS

  • john.p.steyn - 2012-10-29 09:47

The highjacker was a decent person, even dropping the girl off near her house.

  • mrp721 - 2012-10-29 10:51

Children certainly have no fear or very little at that age as they don't understand the real danger. Let's just thank God that this hijacker did not harm her in any way and did drop her off relatively close to home. Such a shame our beautiful country has become so crime ridden :-(

  • coontly - 2012-10-29 11:03

Savages you criminals that run our country.

  • maylani.bezuidenhout - 2012-10-29 11:05

I thought this story would make me feel good but I'm only more determined than ever to get my children out of here despite my love for SA and its people. Thank God that hijacker had some semblance of a soul. That even good people would be driven to acts like this just to feed their families... If we don't do something about the poverty and unemployment its just going to get worse!

  • MJWides - 2012-10-29 11:08
