Girl kidnapped from outside church, raped

2012-01-13 19:41

Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for the kidnapping and rape of an 18-year-old girl in Zola, Soweto, police said on Friday.

The girl was standing with a group of friends at a church on Thursday night when they were approached by the 22-year-old man who invited them to his house, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

"When they refused, he grabbed the girl and took her to a house in Zola where he forcefully gave her alcohol spiked with drugs. He then raped her."

Makhubele said the girl found a cellphone on Friday morning and sent an SMS to her boyfriend telling him where she was.

"He alerted the police, who accompanied him to the house. The man was arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping," said Makhubele.

He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on January 16.

    Yet another sicko psycho!

Build more prisons or bring back the death penalty.

      carpejugulim - 2012-01-14 06:30

oracle we can have as many prisons as can be built but until there is some consistency in sentencing and serving the sentences we sit with a problem. Bear in mind that if serving a life sentence in SA one is eligible to apply for parole at 10, 15 or 20 years into their sentence. If you are that way inclined there is also medical parole ...

With all these crimes I wonder what it will take before the criminal justice system makes a real difference. It seems like the more criminals are caught the more there are to take their place

  • Adri - 2012-01-13 20:07

Where were the friends? Why did they not report this. The poor girl. Put him away for life!

  • Charmaine - 2012-01-13 20:07

This is an ongoing situation in our Country, the rapists get away with fines, That is why the Government must implement the laws of flogging in public for the sexual crimes. She could be any Mother's or Father's child. This could happen to anyone. If it were up to me I would cut off his penis.

      Cracker - 2012-01-13 20:26

If they want to flog people in public they must start with the lying complainants. This was not rape. It was consensual sex. Standing outside church? How is that supposed to elucidate the situation. The friends just allow their friend to be dragged away and don't report it. They could have prevented the whole episode. In which cases were rapists only fined? Twak! Not one instance can be quoted.

      Vegi - 2012-01-14 17:59

True Cracker. The complainant should be flogged for perjury.

  • meredith.r.pollock - 2012-01-13 20:15

I'm just wondering why if she was grabbed in front of her group of friends why didn't they call the cops immediately, hell i'm glad they not my friends..

  • Bianca - 2012-01-13 20:23

This is all hear-say. The girl may have been charmed into going with him and then had a drink that had been spiked. "I was forced" is a teenage cop out! A small one considering she woke up having been raped. Rape is rape!!! Stigma is yet still stigma!

  • Lindiwe Skosana - 2012-01-13 20:53

Too many holes in this story

  • Sarah - 2012-01-13 23:10

This sends a chill down my evil this man must be, to kidnap this girl infront of the church. The devil in disguise in front of the chuch my word, he must have really planned these evil things watching their every move. Good for the girl to be alert enough to be able to get help and in the process also get this guy arrested. Now we watch and see whether the courts give her a positive response on convicting her rapist OR are they going to let him go free on minor technocalities??

      Cracker - 2012-01-13 23:19

What kind of "technicalities" do you imagine may come into play? The fact that the complainant may be a plain liar, which seems to be the case if one looks at currently available information? Any others you can think of?

  • Jacqueline - 2012-01-14 08:21

Hmmmmmm.....I hate to cast doubt on a suspected rape or make light of such a serious matter, but something is wrong with this story or shoddy reporting.

  • Johan - 2012-01-14 10:19

SA is becoming imfamous for its 'animals'

      Adam - 2012-01-14 16:01

Some of them even showerhead afterwards

      Pixie86 - 2012-01-14 17:43

oh johan, i'm somewhat relieved you've not brought statistics and your racial theories about this.

  • Odicito - 2012-01-14 15:03

Nice 'friends', their friend get taken by a thug and they do nothing about it! Who needs friends like this...

  • june.loeve - 2012-01-14 15:06

If the death penalty is not coming back, cut off their you know what we are sick and tired of all these rapes, and when they come out of prison they will only rape again.

  • Adam - 2012-01-14 15:56

It would also help if our idiotic president did not let his kin know that he thinks religion is for the weak. I do recall him begging for votes from the pulpit of Ray McCauly at election time.

  • Freddy - 2012-01-14 16:12

Did the friends run away or what!?? What kind of friends are does!!???

  • John - 2012-01-14 16:25

Don't get flat tire, dont't go to church....i wonder how many other "don't(s)" we need in order to survive this "African Renaissance"

  • Brent - 2012-01-14 16:56

... how does one comment on this?

  • Pixie86 - 2012-01-14 17:46

i find many gaps in this story. It's either the reporter failed dismally or the girl is not telling the whole truth. When she was dragged away, where were her friends? If it was during the day, did no one notice? Why didn't she fight, kick or scream? Maybe news24 needs to rewrite this story with less holes in it.

      Sylvester Mohloli - 2012-01-14 22:35

i dnt usually wanna side with rapists or alleged rapist bt ths story doesnt make sense to me either, did she knw the attacker? If nt, hw did sid knw the address? Assuming she went outside to check the ERF number, why ddnt she scream and or alert neighbours?....anyways hope the truth comes out, no one deserves to be raped, just like no one deserves to be falsely accused of rape

      Sylvester Mohloli - 2012-01-14 22:39

again the friends didnt call the cops? Nah, this either consensual or date RAPE, waiting to hear hw it pans out!

  • Pierre - 2012-01-14 18:15

Bring bank the death penalty. Human rights should not be a right when you decide to exercise your right to the detriment of others.

  • Ivina Alberts - 2012-01-15 06:48

They should cut off his penis and feed it to him

  • Ivina Alberts - 2012-01-15 06:48

They should cut off his penis and feed it to him

  • WarrenStylin - 2012-01-17 12:51

Ok, my opinion - I don't agree with rape. My question's though is, How many friends were there. Why didn't they try to stop the man or follow him? Why didn't they call the police immidiately?

  • Jeremy - 2012-01-17 12:56

Why post this in conjunction with the piece about estranged father who gets arrested because he spends time with his kid. It's enough. Women steal kids all the time. The law helps them.

  • Taunyana - 2012-01-17 17:00

I do not understand the reason of the man need to appear in court for the rape when he was identified with the victim and found together. Why do the tax payer money use for the court case. He suppose to be hang, period

  • Nasiefa - 2012-02-14 12:56

this sounds dodgy ........ "forcefully gave her alcohol" then she sms'ed her bf to fetch her??? why didn't the group of friends she was with scream for help or run after them ??? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm not sounding right at all!!!!!!!#justsaying.

  • Dianne - 2012-02-14 13:16

Come on Mr's time you and your cronies put your big boy pants on and sort out the crime in this country! The longer you leave it to fester the harder it becomes for the citizens who pay taxes i.e. your salary and that of your buddies in Government. As we pay your salary you are in effect OUR employee and we demand that action is taken and this country in cleansed of all the filth. Bring back the death penalty..this is no longer a request from the citizens of RSA. It is now a DEMAND!
