Johannesburg - A truck delivering goods was hijacked in White City, Soweto, on Friday afternoon, Gauteng police said.

The truck driver and his assistant were approached by four men, two of whom were armed, said spokesperson Kay Makhubela.

The pair were shoved into the back of the truck and driven to Naledi section in Soweto.

"The men then drove to Zola, also in Soweto, where they offloaded the goods into a house," said Makhubela.

The tracker in the truck was activated and police patrolling the area picked up the signal.

"They found the truck abandoned in an open area," said Makhubela.

They used the tracker signal to trace where the truck had come from before being dumped and it led them back to the house in Zola.

"As police approached, several men jumped over a wall and ran away from the scene," said Makhubela.

Inside the house, police recovered all the stolen goods, as well as other items which had been reported stolen during truck hijackings around Soweto.

"There was no chair or bed in that house, only stolen goods," said Makhubela, explaining that the house was probably used as a storage area.

Police found the ID book of one of the men on the scene. They discovered that the man was out on parole.

"He had been convicted of armed robbery," said Makhubela.

He was confident that the police would make an arrest soon.
