Johannesburg - A government employee has been nabbed for speeding after she was caught travelling at 224km/h in a BMW on the N12 freeway in Alberton, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Sunday.

“A 34-year old female government employee driving a BMW sedan…will spend the night behind bars, after citing that she was late for work,” said spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

He said the government employee was one of six speedsters nabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

All those arrested have been charged with reckless and negligent driving and will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.

The five others were caught after being clocked at speeds between 164 and 196km/h.
