Johannesburg - An elderly woman was allegedly raped in Delareyville in the North West, police said on Friday.

The 86-year-old woman had gone to a local tavern on Wednesday night and did not return home, said police spokesperson Amanda Funani.

"That worried her children and led to them searching for her, but [they] could not get hold of her," she said.

"According to information received, the old woman came back the following day accompanied by two men, who told the victim's children that they found her naked sleeping along a road."

The woman was apparently drunk when she was found.

She told her children she was raped by an unknown man.

A case has been opened.
