2013-02-13 21:59

Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for raping and killing a 98-year-old grandmother in Mmabatho, North West police said on Wednesday.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the 33-year-old man was arrested in the Mahikeng CBD on Tuesday after police found blood-stained clothes at his house.

Betty Titse's body was found by her grandson on Saturday. She had bruises on her neck and had been covered with a blanket.

Ngubane said the man would appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Bring back the Death Sentence or this will continue to happen, Why should our old people suffer like this, This man must be killed What did she do for him to do this to her. Come on Zuma wake up to the fact that she could have been your mother.

  • lebogang.matlala.56 - 2013-02-13 22:12

Sick man, ths rape cases r shocking

  • isabel.defaria - 2013-02-13 22:14

Speechless! what is happening in our country. So many rapes of the elderly why? Something is seriously wrong we do need the death sentence no matter what they say. South Africa needs to rid itself of this filth only by exterminating them will it end.

  • jutice.forall - 2013-02-13 22:15

A man? You call this detestable criminal a man???? That is an insult to decent, law abiding men the world over.

  • makhanthisa.mastert - 2013-02-13 22:20

this is so gross, what's our leaders doing about this daily filthy behaviour? or they dont care?

      cathy.dejongh.5 - 2013-02-14 07:18

To show that they care, they give them bail.

      apansari2325 - 2013-02-14 07:20

our leaders are leading from the front after taking shower !!

  • SharonE - 2013-02-13 22:26

The government talk about crime but they do nothing! I call upon them to hold a referendum on the death penalty. The constitution is in conflict with itself - it gives the citizens the right to safety but protects the very people that threaten the safety of others! Those who rape and kill must be shown the very same amount of compassion that they show their victims. NONE. My condolences to the family, it should never have happened :-(

  • Pete7930 - 2013-02-13 22:27

I hope u r proud Mr President. Another loyal follower!

Just lost faith in the human race,

  • Perfume - 2013-02-13 22:44

The rapists and murderers have no fear of the cops, government and courts in this country. As long As government have their heads so up their own backsides and turn a blind eye on the increasing rape in South Africa, the rapists and murderers will continue their reign of terror. It seems to have increased under the leadership of Zuma and that is frightening. This rabid scum should of been put to death the minute he was arrested. I put full blame on the leadership of the country end of.

  • Tumi Lu EM - 2013-02-13 23:00

    death penalty

  • mzuvukile.maswana - 2013-02-13 23:05

What has this country become? Is it the drugs that has caused such moral decay? Is it alcohol? Is it the negligence of government officials? Is it the socio economics of communities? Such a frail human being to experience such death. Will this death penalty bring back stability in our society with such corrupt officials?

      mzuvukile.maswana - 2013-02-14 06:11

I hear you Jamba but what about the communities? What roles are we playing in all this mess? Back in the day the communities were a united force who assisted each other through difficult times, who would protect the frail, who would see to it that there if food in the family that is struggling. What has changed that?

  • hyrene.esterhuizen - 2013-02-13 23:16

Why can't government open up their eyes and see what is happening, they rape young kids, babies now they raping the pioneers of our societies and communities...only viable, and effective measure to curb this evil is THE DEATH PENALTY...come on... I wonder how would the reaction be if one of the MP's mom's are the victim?...

  • eve.hemming - 2013-02-13 23:17

This is UTTERLY BEYOND BELIEF ! The level of depravity of men who rape babies, childern and the elderly can only equate to a sector of society who are not worthy of breathing oxygen on our already over populated planet...

  • Sulette Behnke - 2013-02-13 23:17

Just this morning someone commented that no one would rape a cancer patient as you need to find your victim attractive, now what? Can you truly call this a crime of attraction? I think not, it's an ill mind !

  • Sulette Behnke - 2013-02-13 23:18

Name and shame make a list of offenders en post it in newspapers weekly so women know when they come out what they dealing with. Same with molesters. Warn the public on releases

  • catherine.l.vanzyl - 2013-02-13 23:26

Dear Ms, Betty Titse,to think you are older than Mr Nelson Mandela, to think you have lived to such a ripe old age and then this moral decay in our society, has touched your life in your twilight years. this is surely a very sad day again and again every day the sadness drips with destruction of our beloved country which once was and hopefully will one day again stand proud, i hang my head in shame of the behaviour of the morally compass lost people. this is so wrong!!!

  • bob.small.7547 - 2013-02-13 23:49

What do you have to say about this type of behavior...Mr Zuma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing!....I thought so!

  • bernard.macdonald.37 - 2013-02-13 23:53

      Bullet Proof - 2013-02-14 05:41

Very trough Sally, agree 100% with you.How somebody can impose morals in a country if himself have none.

  • Crracker - 2013-02-14 00:09

Kill the bliksem! In a better run country it should not take longer than at most 3 weeks to get all the evidence collected and presented to court. The lawayer(s) for the accused will simple have to come from those available. No damn postponements And automatic review should follow within say at most a week later and the guilty party taken outside and executed. Like they apparently do in China. And give the judge/magistrate more say in the presentation of the cases of both prosecution and defense. No fancy tactics. And change the law so ordinary law-abiding citizens can take proper care of uninvited intruders onto/into their (properly enclosed) property.

They are not human, and animals don't rape other animals so I wonder in which category they fall?

  • keith.ngobeni - 2013-02-14 01:23

Iam lost of words! But hey who doesn't know that barbaric acts like this ones have become a normality in south African societies! With the current useless government in charge of our affairs, Iam afraid to say women and kids are in bigger danger to become a meal to these perpetrators!!

  • Debbie Reid - 2013-02-14 02:32

  • vivian.harris.73 - 2013-02-14 06:38

ANC government not gonna do S*** about the laws in this country because it seems its the African way of life. Don't want to upset the ancestors now....

  • bon.bon.73157 - 2013-02-14 06:52

The government need to remember they are there to serve the people - not the other way round. If the people demand a referendum on the Death Penalty - then that is what we should have. However, seeing as that is never going to happen, I am now an avid supporter of mob justice. Unfortunately the people have to do what our government won't.

  • cathy.dejongh.5 - 2013-02-14 07:15

If that doesn't show contempt for women - she survives so much in her life, only to be crushed and discarded as waste by vermin. Death penalty - let the people wipe their backsides on him.

  • hilton.ralphs - 2013-02-14 07:18

Well done ANC, you have inspired a generation of upstanding citizens.

All hell has broken loose in south africa and we have no leader. Please people get rid of Zuma.We cannot go on like this.

  • fred.potgieter.92 - 2013-02-14 07:37

The death penalty will never be reinstated. It will amount to genocide and they know it - in other words losing voters. Cut it off and throw it away. That way he will never be able to do it again.

  • liana.huisman - 2013-02-14 07:45

    WTF is next?!!!!

  • willie.olivier.144 - 2013-02-14 07:49

The poor old lady! What hell she must have gone thru! May he burn in hell! It will be the only justice he will get, and that's from God! Because there is no more justice in SA. Zuma wake up and bring back the death penalty!

  • steven.hing.12 - 2013-02-14 07:51

You're wrong there, he can still kill again!

  • jus.manning - 2013-02-14 07:54

Its very sad to see how "backward" and "stone-age" our country really is. But then again, it cannot come as a surprise that we are living amongst savages. They have only been living amongst civilized people for almost 400 years. Before they were colonized, they were still feeding off termites out of ant hills. This country is far too young and is not getting better at all. We need the rest of the, more civilized, mature, world to help us here, as our leader has failed us horribly.

  • Richard - 2013-02-14 07:59

What is going on. Seems Rape has become the new fashion as everyday there are new rapes. Surely this is not co-incidence. Who in their right mind wants to rape a 98 year old lady.

  • mike.bester1 - 2013-02-14 08:19

WTF, He must be animal, what was the turn on ?

  • susan.paul.330 - 2013-02-14 08:32

  • shazyrat - 2013-02-14 08:35

I am finding it so difficult to express myself and some people are proud to be South Africans when what this "filth from the sewer" does this to a frail old lady - but I guess he is following his leader and we all know that this is happening every 4 minutes in this country and will continue to happen - as others have commented - the law in SA is on the side of the CRIMINAL !!!!

  • dunkie56 - 2013-02-14 08:52
