Griekwastad family shot in under 20min

Pretoria - Three members of the Steenkamp family were mowed down within minutes of each other in their farmhouse on Good Friday earlier this year.

This has emerged from court documents in the State’s case against a 16-year-old teenager who has been accused of the murders on the Griekwastad farm, reported Volksblad.

There were 72 witnesses who could testify against the teen in March, including family members and classmates.

The court heard that only 20 minutes passed between Christel Steenkamp sending an SMS to her sister and her and her family’s alleged killer walking into the police station at Griekwastad.

The State alleged that murders were committed between 18:34 (when Christel sent the SMS) and 18:54, when the accused arrived at the police station.

It is alleged that the murders were planned and premeditated.

The first paragraph does not gel with the rest of the article. Does the journalist understand what he is hearing in court?

If they indeed can proof beyond doubt that these murders were planned and premeditated then I have absolutely no symphaty for him and he must get life without parole.

What this boy has done will haunt him when he's matured enough to realize it,killing his family just because his dad wanted him to study, but he wanted to work on the farm, young as he is.

  • henk.tredoux.7 - 2012-10-02 11:22

If he is guilty, what triggered him to kill his whole family? I speculate that he was abusing his sister and the father caught him out! What else could lead to such violent and angry outburst?

      erick.vogel.75 - 2012-10-02 12:43

Henk, Spot on! This will come out in the trail.

      jannie.beirowski - 2012-10-02 13:43

I speculate his father was abusing his sister, his wife caught them and his father killed the mother. The son heard the shots and came in and shot the father when he saw what had happened. The daughter tried to prevent him and he had to shoot her in self-defense. This should tell you that speculation can create wonderful stories, so please stop speculating and wait for the truth.

      cgaybba - 2012-10-04 08:42

While on the subject of speculating... What if the father was a mean bastard that was abusing his son mentally and maybe even physically and that his sister was praised and treated as a princess? Wouldn't that just make you mad? To deliberately being shown you are the black sheep of the family? This boy is NOT GUILTY until court can prove he is guilty...

My heart hurts for this family. I cannot fathom how a young boy who grew up in a civilised family and attended a decent school can do such a thing. WHY??!!

  • rbruwer7 - 2012-10-05 13:48

Why does the boy stay with a friend and not with the family?
