Gruesome accident claims 6 lives

2012-09-30 07:22

Johannesburg - Six people have died after their vehicles collided head-on on the R503 near Klerksdorp on Saturday evening, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the accident occurred about 20km outside of Klerksdorp when a VW Polo and an Audi collided.

"One of the vehicles with five occupants burst into flames on impact, the other wreckage was found a few metres away with the female driver still trapped in the vehicle," Botha said.

Paramedics worked to treat the victims of the accident but all occupants of both vehicles died on the scene.

Speed will always be da undoing of most of us, RIP, may their souls find solace an comfort amongst them angels, therers none here.

Khehu, speed on it's own is harmless plus the human body is not designed to withstand the force of impacts that occur at speeds over 100kph. Internal organs tear lose. Speed is a killer when driving conditions are not conducive to high speed, these conditions may include things such as substance abuse by the driver, poor road conditions, unroadworthy vehicles or (and most often) inexperienced drivers. Assuming that both vehicles were driving at 100 to 120 kph, chances are pretty high that the collision would have resulted in fatalities anyway. My guess is that one of the drivers was reckless. and has quite rightly been removed from the gene pool, unfortunately he or she took five other people down with them.

I feel so powerless and upset when reading these accidents reports, knowing that reckless selfish drivers take chances and then cause the death of innocent law-abiding drivers. There are far too many of these accidents on our roads. Very very heavy fines and more jail term (and permanent and instant revocation of drivers licence) for such drivers (esp those that actually survive their own stupidity and get to live whilst the people they killed families lives are changed for the worse for ever) Condolences to the families.

What if the cause of the accident was a pothole, or a burst tire? Would your comment have been different?

Head on implies somebody veered into someones lane. Overtaking perhaps? Now 6 lives lost.... So sad. Prayers to the families.

It is the road between Klerksdorp and Hartbeesfontein, known for it's blind rises and deceptive curves. There are many accidents on that road, and the reason for that is crazy reckless drivers that overtake where they shouldn't and of course, speeding. One vehicle was innocent, the other deserve everything that happened to them. Sad story.

      khethu.ndlovu.3 - 2012-09-30 09:04

Lets say the 'deserving' 1 was the 1 with four occupants in it, you mean to say the three occupants richly deserve what they got?

      Annelize Grobler - 2012-09-30 10:28

ja nee.... I dont know if this sounds right... only 1 person made the driving mistake ? now the others also deserved it ??? not nicely said...

May their soul rest in peace. Speeding, unnecessary overtaking may be the cause of these gruesome accident so I am appealing to all motorist to be patient to each other while on the road. As we are approaching festive seasons lets obey the rules of the road and arrive alive and regretting nothing.

I hope we all know how we sometimes undermine being behind that steering. It nearly happened to me on Friday approaching a car and the wheel came off their trailer coming straight to me. I don't know how I did it but thank God I managed to avoid it although I nearly fell into a ditch.

These crashes should not be called accidents. They are incidents of bad driving, poor judgment of prevailing conditions and lack of knowledge about the limitations of the vehicles they drive. A near majority of modern vehicles on our roads today have safe performance capabilities far exceeding the skills of the drivers behind these vehicles' controls. I grew up at a time when it was something to be proud of to know as much as possible about the mechanics of your car. Today regrettably, many motorists know zilch about the vehicles they drive, they don't care about tyre condition or tyre inflation, or brakes and steering. I have seen countless times how suicidal idiots behind the wheel of powerful cars grossly exceed the speed limit in pouring rain or foggy conditions. My house is located on a bend of a very busy road where one cannot see oncoming vehicles. There are two parking bays on the same side as my house. I have seen countless times how drivers of these cars park in the bays facing oncoming traffic which they cannot see. Such drivers not only put their own lives at risk, but also those of others. A bit of a rant but that's the way things are on the roads today.

I think this comment is really uncalled for..I am a close friend and did not see the point in your comment onm this..accidents happen and quite frankly I find you to be very insensitive towards this matter. Peopl are hurting. If this 'enlightening' comment made you feel better about this incident...I'm glad, clearly you need to explain everything..all I am saying is thank you for coming accross as such a know-all..bwear in mind the next time you comment..that there are family and relatives out there who wonnt appreciate this. And your opinions won't bring them back...
