Johannesburg - A security guard was drugged and tied up by a gang of four men who forced opened up an ATM and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash in Dobsonville, Soweto, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, said police.

"The centre managers at the Dobsonville Point arrived this morning and found him tied up," said police spokesperson Kay Makhubela.

He was unconscious.

The robbers managed to open only one of several ATMs in the small complex.

"They took the money as well as the CCTV footage equipment," said Makhubela.

Police have opened a case of business robbery.

The security guard had since been hospitalised.

"We have not had a chance to speak to him properly as he was drugged but we will take a statement from him soon," said Makhubela.

No arrests had been made.
