Gun battle on residents' doorsteps

2013-01-16 08:22

Johannesburg - Kempton Park residents were left shocked by a shoot-out between police and suspected criminals that happened right at their front doors.

Police were giving chase to robbers in a minibus taxi that suddenly pulled over in the neighbourhood, reported Eyewitness News.

“We heard the first shot and thought that it was fireworks, but when we heard multiple shots, we came out and checked what was going on,” said one resident.

The suspects jumped from the car and started firing at the police, wounding two officers.

Another suspect shot himself in the head when cornered by police.

Three men were arrested but police are on the hunt for five men who managed to escape.

      Eterni80 - 2013-01-16 11:53

the quality of our 'Cops' is such that they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a firearm.

This happened very close to wear I work. Scary to think what country we live in and that we are all literally dodging bullets between suspects and the police. South Africa is such a beautiful country but plaqued with the criminals in it.

  • Twolips - 2013-01-16 09:42

*we came out and checked what was going on*. Fools! They could have been caught in the crossfire or been hit by a stray bullet.

      jj.jeno.1 - 2013-01-16 10:20

Exactly!! That's like the character in horror movies who goes to check what the noise in the woods is? Are you mad?

      Balloo - 2013-01-16 11:00

@JJ_D, you can only go in to the woods if your not a virgin...the virgin's always get's it first.

And if the police actually knew how to use their firearms they would be taking 5 more to the morgue and not be "Hunting" for them.

“We heard the first shot and thought that it was fireworks, but when we heard multiple shots, we came out and checked what was going on,” said one resident. This article reads like a film script...even the part where occupants of the house went out to watch the gun battle...and the guy that made himself target of his own gun..Actually was relieved to read that indeed the guy shot himself cos I was skeptical when I initially read that the police reported that the guy had shot himself

  • alan.ingram.355 - 2013-01-16 12:53

why is ir every time their is a shootout between cops/robbers cops always get shot ? Is it maybe the poor training they get, or is it that their brain is too slow to react to to a sudden crisis !!!!!

  • firstseed.mbeva - 2013-01-16 15:29

The bullet (pictured) looks like a sharpened male organ, lol!

  • luna.moon.5243817 - 2013-01-28 07:42

cowboys and crooks country country. and the police did there utmost to prevent private people from having arms for self defence. I am missing something here

  • luna.moon.5243817 - 2013-01-28 07:45

fortunately the robbers seems to have self destruct built in modes. When cornered they shoot themselves. So my advice to the police is..just corner these thugs and wait for this self destruct mode to kick in
