The dramatic robbery played out at Ocean Basket on Lagoon Drive as customers enjoyed a late lunch.

Several staff members were assaulted, and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said staff had noticed four men near the entrance before they burst through the doors.

“A complainant was inside the business premises when she noticed four unidentified suspects entering.

'Aggressive manner'

“One of the suspects produced a firearm and in an aggressive manner demanded cash, cellphones and bank cards,” Zwane added.

The staff and customers were forced to the floor while the gunmen gathered up all items of value.

“All were forced to the floor and the suspects removed the mentioned items before fleeing the crime scene on foot. No arrests or recoveries have been made, and investigations are continuing,” he said.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said medics examined several members of staff who had sustained minor injuries as a result of being assaulted during the course of the robbery.

None required further treatment at a hospital.
