A HADEDA has been found with a nearly metre-long arrow through its torso.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA found the bird last Friday in a household garden when the homeowner saw the struggling bird and alerted the animal rescue body.

But just hours after recovering the injured bird, it had to be put down due to extensive internal injuries.

Kloof and Highway SPCA spokesperson Lisa Gadd said the injured hadeda was only able to fly as high as waist height.

“The inspectors caught the injured hadeda and rushed it back to the Kloof and Highway SPCA clinic. An arrow was protruding from the bird’s torso and had penetrated right through. The arrow measured 75 cm in length. Unfortunately the bird could not be saved as it had suffered such a severe injury,” said Gadd.

She said the Kloof and Highway SPCA had a “zero tolerance policy to animal cruelty” and asked the public to report any cruelty witnessed. — Witness Reporter
