'Kidnapped' Happy Sindane murdered

2013-04-01 17:24

Johannesburg - Happy Sindane, who made headlines in 2003 when he alleged that he was a white boy who had been kidnapped by black people, was found dead in Tweefontein, next to Kwamhlanga, on Monday, Mpumalanga police said.

"It seems as if he was stoned to death," Captain Leonard Hlathi said.

The motive for the killing was not known. No arrests had been made.

After a four-month inquiry to establish his identity, the Bronkhorstspruit Children's Court found in September 2003 that Sindane's real name was Abbey Mziyaye, the son of a black domestic worker, Rina Mzayiya.

The court found his father was probably a white man, Henry Nick, who employed Mzayiya in 1984. He was born that year. The whereabouts of both were unknown.

In 2004 Sindane was run over by a minibus and a car. When the accident occurred Sindane was lying in the road outside the Sinzanani Trust Village place of safety in Bronkhorstspruit, where he lived. It was not known why he was lying in the road.

Later that year Sindane appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court for malicious damage to property. He was arrested in Marabastad, Pretoria, after he allegedly broke the windows of a taxi with stones.

In 2005 the charges were dropped after the taxi owner told the court he had repaired the damage himself and did not wish to proceed with the case.

May his soul RIP. If that boy had any Luck!.. It was Bad luck from the start!...

      Jay Jay - 2013-04-01 19:53

      May their be justice,for Happy.

      Sh Oosh - 2013-04-01 20:03

When you look at his photo you want to cry, poor kid!

      Bullet Proof - 2013-04-01 20:49

God be with him, he was not accepted by anybody, hard this society without mercy, R.I.P.

      Punungwe - 2013-04-01 22:01

What kind of man is it that fathers a child and abandons it. Your blood is your blood. That is what my honourable tradition teaches me.

      Thabo Shaku - 2013-04-02 00:05

Where was Henry Nick all these years watching his son going through hell? Disgusting...........

      Pierre De Villiers - 2013-04-02 09:30

In 1984 one would have gone to jail for an "inter-racial" relationship. That is the legacy of the NP. However it is a pity that after 1994 people did not learn to be more compassionate. Everybody just lives their own daily lives and don't help or care for others around them.

      Judit Victor - 2013-04-02 09:42

Pierre de Villiers, exactly how would a lack of apartheid have made it better for this kid. ANYWHERE in the world?

      marc.klynhans - 2013-04-02 10:40

Wasn't it Sizanani, not Sinzanani? Sad story. At least he did live in a nice place.

      Pierre De Villiers - 2013-04-03 10:27

Judit, every time just when I think SA have made progress, I read a comment like the one you just posted, and then 30 odd people even liked it. I don't understand your logic. First of all I did not even mention Apartheid. But since you claim Apartheid has done nothing wrong; did Apartheid not drive people of different ethnic groups apart? Also as I already mentioned people were put in jail for relationships across ethnic lines, especially fathering a child. Did you not think that in another era, this guy would have cared better for his son, instead of abandoning him?

  • Carlos Maputa - 2013-04-01 17:31

    RIP happy sindane

      Janita Maritz - 2013-04-02 13:03

Oh my goodness, does EVERYTHING come down to rape? Don't jump the gun before you KNOW the facts.

      Sandra Rennie - 2013-04-02 16:40

This is not the first time a domestic worker has had a child by her employer and it won't be the last. I just feel terribly sorry for the child. May he rest in peace.

      Mapsikolosha Ka Mobu - 2013-04-02 21:22

And hey Mike, you just told us that is what u've been doing to domestic workers.

Sad indeed, this kid had nothing but a tough life. He was used for political gain when his case surfaced and just left to fend for himself. RIP

  • Ivy Malema - 2013-04-01 17:43

RIP, he had a troubled life, wished he met his father maybe he should have appeased his ancestors

      Sh Oosh - 2013-04-01 19:24

@ Donovan, really boet, is that necessary? think about it.

      Donovan Hendricks - 2013-04-01 19:46

Sh oosh mabe not boet I feel like I overstepped here a bit and I do apologise, but I get so mad when people mention ancestral worship, its primitive and nonsense, when I look back how black people in this country have suffered and still do it infuriates me that they still cling to this mumbo jumbo

      Bob Bothalezi - 2013-04-01 21:12

Michael If you have a problem with christians or christianity - keep it to yourself

      Motlalepula Matshwe - 2013-04-01 21:21

donovan respect others believes and they will respect yours....christianity brought a lot of trouble for this continent, your bible thumping lieing ancestors used to steal from our ancestors who yes where gullible to abonden their own believes and allowed themselves to be duped....

      stephanie.sutherland41 - 2013-04-01 23:34

Motlalepula - Well at least now I can see that interracial children were a regular thing, and therefore many more should be walking around South Africa. This young man was very light of skin, and as children go would probably have been teased endlessly. If Happy was born of mixed relations, there will be many others like him in SA and also prove that some groups came to be through mixed relationships and procreation. I think this is a very sad day when someone is stoned especially a child. Rest in piece Happy, hope you find the piece you never did in life.

      Daniel Rademan - 2013-04-02 08:59

at Bob and Matlalepula - our ancestors stoned people to death in the past. It seems this young chap was staoned to death for something he may may have done wrong. Do we the accept his fate?

      Hansie.Crook - 2013-04-02 09:36

Donovan....People still cling to God and they suffer. Whats your point? - 2013-04-02 10:05

@Stephane ... Happy was no longer a child he was around 31 years old ... but point taken ... very sad

      Mlungisi Botha - 2013-04-02 18:34

Eissshhhh! I really love my countrymen and women. There's never a dull moment here. Here's a story about a poor lad born through a not uncommon happening and in addition to wishing his soul rest in peace we drift off and argue over apartheid, rape, ancestral spirits, Christianity, bad luck, good luck, interracial relationships etc etc. It ain't South African just to say R.I.P and then leave it at that.

  • Phill Sarefa - 2013-04-01 17:44

What a tragedy! His father failed him. And his mother is not innocent too. In a situation like this you need support of both parents. The community should have done better. Somebody should have told him about people like Walter Sisulu who went on to be an icon of the struggle against apartheid.

      Sipho Mnguni - 2013-04-01 17:49

Well said, Phil, that's a masterpiece!

      Connie Fumazela-Mkhonto MakaNonkululeko - 2013-04-01 18:15

      Well said Phill

      Sh Oosh - 2013-04-01 19:26

oh really and how would that have helped him? With regards to Mom and Dad, do you know the story?

      Jo.Davies123 - 2013-04-01 21:05

His mother left him and went to the liquor store, leaving him with the woman who brought him up. She was far from innocent.

  • Sipho Mnguni - 2013-04-01 17:47

What a tragic end to a tortured soul! May your soul finally find peace.

  • Derrick Shezi - 2013-04-01 17:48

Troubled soul while alive...may his soul find eternal rest. His story was a tragedy of our times.

  • salvador - 2013-04-01 17:49

Stoned to death. Feel sick and sad.

      PissyWhiskers Black - 2013-04-03 12:05

@ George - In the bible it was done if you were guilty of a crime - Happy did not commit a crime....maybe you should do more reading of the bible and see the context. BTW that was in the old days - but there is a lesson to be learnt - what lesson is to be learnt here George???

  • simon.selahla - 2013-04-01 17:57

      Sh Oosh - 2013-04-01 19:30

      lost the plot! try :)

  • Amatambo - 2013-04-01 18:09

What a shock to read about the lad's brutal death - I remember following all the news about him way back in the early 2000's and wonderding whether he would ever know a normal life. Unfortunately not... What could have been the reason for this youngster's brutal murder - I hope the filth who did this will be arrested and sent to prison for many years, as Happy didn't deserve to die this way. RIP, Happy - you're in a far better place now where you won't know pain, hunger and enmity any longer..

      Sh Oosh - 2013-04-01 19:34

Well I think its best to say that if he did not deserve this death then lets hope that his murderers (filth as you put it) rot in jail, if not, I pray the culprits are caught and dealt with accordingly.

      lacrimosewolf - 2013-04-01 19:45

No living thing deserves being stoned to death. It's an archaic and barbaric form of torture

      LionLamb - 2013-04-02 08:52

Yes they will. God is the ultimate judge and each of us shall be judged according to our actions here on earth! But, if people don't believe in God and in consequences then they will have no trouble murdering and hating and living an evil life.

  • Bonani Nggqaimbana - 2013-04-01 18:19
