Hawks arrest Alex policeman

2012-12-02 19:05

Johannesburg - An Alexandra policeman has been arrested for corruption, a spokesperson for the Hawks says.

Spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said on Sunday that the 42-year-old warrant officer was arrested and R10 000 seized.

The warrant officer falsely told a motor mechanic he was being investigated for motor vehicle theft and house robbery and solicited a R10 000 bribe to destroy the dockets, he said.

"He was apprehended immediately and the money was confiscated," said Ramaloko.

The policeman was being held at the Roodepoort police station and would appear in the Wynburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Since we can't do that in this country, do the next best thing: Name him, shame him and send him to prison where he belongs. For a good, long time.

      NickvanGraan - 2012-12-02 20:45

If he was falsely accused of motor vehicle theft, why would he then pay over a bribe of R10 000 to "destroy the docket" if he was innocent?

      BulletProof. - 2012-12-03 19:20

Let that policeman without any waste of time be sentenced for life because he was the one to fight crime and not to protect criminals and also be part of them by doing criminal activities, he knows very well that what he did was wrong so he should then remain behind bars he is not wanted in the police force of this country they are dangerous to the society.

Apparently so are charlatans and fraudsters

  • carryn.whittaker - 2012-12-02 20:45

This is a headline only because corruption is not being addressed appropriately. With the amount of corruption in this country its a f@erking disgrace that the arrest rate is so low that drivel like this is newsworthy. Not taking issue with the press as they can only report on what happens. But Hawks, seriously chaps, get out there and find something a little more rewarding for the taxpayer to celebrate.

  • comurray - 2012-12-02 21:59

This a warrant officer leading by example, which school was he trained at to become a "warrant" officer? Surely their tutors are putting ideas into the pupils heads on "get rich quick schemes". As most of these cops are too thick to think of these schemes.

  • flynn.govender - 2012-12-03 10:19

There are so many corrupt police officers in SA, I just hope this policeman does not get this case thrown out of court. In jail, the prisoners do not like ex-police officers
