Hawks boss suspended

Cape Town - Hawks boss Anwa Dramat has been suspended, the police ministry has confirmed, according to a report on Wednesday.

Eyewitness News reported Dramat had been placed on precautionary suspension, in a move related to allegations that he was involved in the illegal deportation of men to Zimbabwe in 2010.

In October last year, a report claimed damning evidence emerged  where rendition survivors accused Dramat of of being directly involved in the apprehension and deportation of Zimbabwe's most-wanted criminals.

According to the report some of the men deported were tortured and killed in Zimbabwe.

The report said at the time that Dramat had agreed to present himself for interrogation to investigators from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)
