Hawks crack down on brothels

2012-12-01 10:51

Johannesburg - The Hawks have raided and shut down two suspected brothels on the East Rand, said police on Saturday.
Captain Paul Ramaloka said the crackdowns happened on Friday and 23 people were arrested.

"We confiscated a total of R31 000 from the brothels," he said.

In the first raid in Malvern, seven foreign national were arrested.

"Four women were from Thailand and the other two were from China. One man believed to be the owner was also arrested," he said.

Ramaloka said R15 000 believed to have been proceeds from the business was seized.

The second raid was in Edenvale and R16 000 was confiscated from the premises.

"We arrested 14 women from Thailand and one South African woman. A 47-year-old man from Yugoslavia, who we think is the owner, was also arrested and another man from the Congo," said Ramaloka. All of them would appear in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Monday where the owners would face charges of operating a brothel.

The women, some of whom entered the country without documentation, would face charges of illegal immigration and soliciting money for the purpose of prostitution.

How come we always hear the drug and brothel stories and there is a foreigner involved? What kind of people are we attracting to this country?

      sthembiso.jali.50 - 2012-12-01 11:18

the f*%*d up type of people.

      John - 2012-12-01 14:13

Probably found some rhino , no sorry , wit ou horns there too

      Alien42063 - 2012-12-02 10:19

I simply do not understand how k#k our border security is to have so many illegals. How can we attempt to grow a country and give jobs to the jobless if the illegals keep coming in and taking the local people's jobs (Focusing on the Jobs part of this thread, not prostitution of course LOL)

  • joe.smit.549 - 2012-12-01 11:16

Leave the brothels, concentrate on Julius, and Nkandla.

      JaredVN - 2012-12-01 14:02

Nkandla is also a special kind of brothel for JZ 783's multiple wives, concubines, floozies, daughters of friends, etc. The difference is there's only one customer using the brothel and the taxpayer pays for his shagging.

      John - 2012-12-01 14:14

I agree , the brothels make the best soup in town

      sheamus.drager - 2012-12-02 11:39

The difference between a hooker and a wife? The hooker gets COD, the wife gets a gold card and you hope for delivery.

Abolish slave trades! Doubt any of these girls where told what they were getting into....

      douglas.hollis.7 - 2012-12-01 13:35

True. And thanks for pointing it out. Strange isn't it, that some idiots thought it worthwhile to give you a thumbsdown on that, guess it shows they probably have no idea of the grim realities of human trafficking. The following stats are from the International Labour Organisation: • There are 2.5 million people in slavery today, a significant proportion of whom who have been abducted and forced into sexual slavery (and very few will ever escape from their captors) • The majority of trafficking victims are between 18 and 24 years of age • An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year • 95% of victims experienced physical or sexual violence during trafficking (based on data from selected European countries) • 43% of victims are used for forced commercial sexual exploitation, of whom 98 per cent are women and girls • 32% of victims are used for forced economic exploitation, of whom 56 per cent are women and girls. Also, for every 800 women and children trafficked, only 1 trafficker gets convicted. • Shamzewaduhaha - 2012-12-01 11:35

Brothels are not of national interest. Can Hawks investigate Nkandla Compound or whatever its called.

  • onssalsien.bloubul - 2012-12-01 11:36

Why need a brothel, They rape in anyway, regardless!

  • megalos.savvas - 2012-12-01 11:38

I think they should leave brothels alone and let them open more , the rape statistics should drop

      matthew.patrick.925 - 2012-12-01 13:38

And maybe legalise and regulate them, the spread of HIV and other STDs will then drop. Plus it'll generate more tax revenue and legal employment.

  • Mbuso Siera - 2012-12-01 11:39

South Africa should consider strong monitoring of foreign nationals granted visa to this country...Home affairs nd all SA embassies should be investigated together with the SAPS they r killing this country.....many foreign nationals come this country not to add value....its the way to deal with women trafficking, drug trafficking nd credit card frauds....

      sharon.erwin.96 - 2012-12-01 12:30

Agreed, their priorities are totally screwed up - they let the trash in, but the poor Dalai Lama didn't get a look in. Speaks volumes about those in power..

      matthew.patrick.925 - 2012-12-01 13:46

Why don't we just do away with checks and controls for all immigrants? It's not like the criminals among the Nigerian, Asian & Zimbabwean immigrants, to name only a few nationalities, are having great difficulty getting here, plus they're bringing their entire workforce and families.

      joe.smit.549 - 2012-12-01 16:26

      Well said, Sharon.

  • AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-12-01 11:46

. More than likely , the cops did not get a free f... !!!!!

      mc.segal.5 - 2012-12-01 18:00

      Just took the money

  • jaysonpaul.beckwith - 2012-12-01 11:58

I must say, the Hawks are really in the thick of everything. From anti Rhino poaching to cash in transit hiest's now closing down brotels, they are setting a good example to those thugs out there that they are not going to take cr@p. I like,, I like it a lot!! Keep it up boys.

      arthur.salvado - 2012-12-01 12:07

Quite right but I think that they should prioritize their efforts. None of the present problems will ga away if we don't educate our children . Let's go after the scoundrels who are making money out of non delivery of books and lock up teachers raping children etc etc etc. then lock up our corrupt government officials and get the money back, and eventually get to brothels, taxis, street vendors etc. mmmmmm to hard a task ?

      jaysonpaul.beckwith - 2012-12-01 12:20

I'm with you Arthur. What I'm pointing out is that whatever your crime big or small you better be looking over your shoulder. Or you might get a cap in you @ss.

      sharon.erwin.96 - 2012-12-01 12:33

@ Artur - good point, that is what Thabo said 15 years ago, and look where we are now. When you read stories on N24 regarding crime the chances are 90% that the perpertrators are "born-free". What happened to the grand ideals of Thabo Mbeki?

  • johnwilliam.roberts - 2012-12-01 11:59

shame the hawks must have no work to do! go for the soft targets you scared of the hard core criminals you should be ashamed of yourselfs pricks !!

      sectioneightsolutions - 2012-12-02 12:29

  • arthur.salvado - 2012-12-01 12:02

  • freddy.vanwijk - 2012-12-01 12:44

But when it comes down to crack down farm on murderers for example, or corruption by "tenderpreneurs" it seems that they have been put on a leesh like dogs.

      khethu.ndlovu.3 - 2012-12-01 13:28

      Are u complaining? Again!

      themba.monare.5 - 2012-12-02 00:22

Surely the HAwks have more pressing business to attend to .

      douglas.hollis.7 - 2012-12-01 13:38

Human trafficking is one of the greatest evils in the world today. Curiously, few even know it's happening. Life is bliss when you're living in ignorance. How would you feel if your daughter got abducted by these thugs and forced into a life of prostitution and drugs??

      sectioneightsolutions - 2012-12-02 12:31

Yes. I was next door and wrote this as I saw it. http://waynebisset.wordpress.com/2012/12/02/an-interesting-life-and-some-hawks/

We have mobile brothels in our suburbs - and after the deed the condoms are thrown out of the windows of the motor vehicle - and the SAPS do nothing!!!

      mc.segal.5 - 2012-12-01 18:04

  • luytster - 2012-12-01 18:16

Jeez, they will have the squawks issuing parking tickets next. And meanwhile in Lala Land not one civil servant or politician is languishing in jail for fraud and theft of the taxpayers money. Excuse me while i go and puke.

  • John - 2012-12-01 21:15

Prostitution is not and never has been ILLEGAL! Stupid and ignorant SAPS HAWKS!

  • John - 2012-12-01 21:24

Prosecute the keeper of the BROTHEL and the slave traders. The girls are sex WORKERS, they have commited no crime!

  • piet.motsoeneng - 2012-12-01 22:57

Reading some comments here it seems t me some people just have a problem sticking to the topic and some will just never appreciate anything done by any state organ or state. I think we should be reasonable at times. Human trafficking is a serious crime and you would understand that if one of your family members is or was a victim. Can we support something when its right irrespective of who did it or whether we like them or not?

  • diebongs0412 - 2012-12-02 07:28

Its amazing how every comment responds against what has been done by the hawks. I mean look at the ppl behind it, its the foreigners and illegal immigrants. Now u wana tel me thats tolerable?

  • sectioneightsolutions - 2012-12-02 12:25

Well done Hawks on brilliant use of manpower and resources. As I live in the building next door, here is how I saw it. http://waynebisset.wordpress.com/2012/12/02/an-interesting-life-and-some-hawks/
