Durban - An emergency rescue helicopter has been sent to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park north of St Lucia on the KwaZulu-Natal coast to rescue two people believed to have been gored by a buffalo on Thursday.

Robert McKenzie of the province’s Emergency Rescue Service (EMS) said the helicopter had been dispatched before midday.

He said that while he did not have all the details, he had been informed that a woman and a man had been victims of the attack. He said the EMS helicopter had not arrived at the scene.

ISimangaliso Wetland Park spokesperson confirmed that there was an incident, but he too could not confirm details.

“We received a call from someone walking in the park. Our people are out in the field and reception is bad. I cannot tell you exactly what happened.”

He said that he would release further details as soon as they became available. He could not confirm that the attack even involved a buffalo.
