Johannesburg - Henri van Breda, who survived an attack on his family in Stellenbosch, during which his parents and brother were killed, has a legal team, it was reported on Friday.

"Henri's support structure, his legal team, everybody, is supporting him," his uncle André van Breda was quoted by Netwerk24 as saying.

Henri, who was relatively unharmed in the attack, attended a memorial service for his brother and parents on Thursday but sat out of sight of media and other onlookers.

Meanwhile, his sister Marli, 16, who was critically injured in the attack, has opened her eyes.

Emergency medical services spokesperson Robert Daniels said previously that Marli had an axe wound to the head and her jugular vein had been severed.

"She is getting better every day. She is moving her eyes to follow instructions," André said.

The Van Breda family were attacked in their home on the De Zalze Golf Estate last month.

Martin van Breda, 54, his wife Teresa, 55, and older brother Rudi, 22, were killed.

Netwerk24 on Friday quoted Van Breda as saying Henri is receiving a lot of support and was traumatised.
