Johannesburg - One of the men accused of robbing slain Dr Louis Heyns will apply for bail in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.

The State intended opposing the application by Malmesbury businessman Juan Liedeman, 37, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said on Wednesday.

Liedeman and his co-accused Marthinus van der Walt, 33, and his brother Sarel, 42, first appeared in the Somerset West Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The Cape Times reported that the Van der Walt brothers faced charges of murder and robbery, but that Liedeman was accused only of robbery.

According to the charge sheet, Heyns was kicked and punched at Somerset Mall on May 22, the newspaper reported.
He was also reportedly robbed of his vehicle, a gold ring, a cellphone, and a pair of takkies.

His body was found in a shallow grave in Strand on Thursday.

The murder and robbery case continues on Monday.
