Hijacker bails with owner locked in boot

Durban - A hijacker jumped from the car he had just stolen while the victim - a Durban woman believed to be a doctor - was still locked in the boot.

Police moved swiftly to arrest the hijacker who was hiding in bushes near Hillcrest and managed to stop the car and free the woman who was unharmed, reported The Mercury.

The woman was said to be traumatised and grateful for her rescue but did not want to talk to the media.

She had apparently been hijacked in the parking lot of the Chatsworth Shopping Centre by a man with a gun.

Her car’s tracking company alerted police to the car’s location and tracking officials in a helicopter as well as police officers were in hot pursuit.

Altech Netstar recovery agent Thinus Schoeman said: “When we saw the vehicle, the hijacker jumped out of it and ran into a bushy area. The vehicle continued moving forward for a short distance and the police then contained it.”

Barbarians, heathens. The scientists that are looking for the "missing link" are looking in the wrong place.

So sad we live in a country where the first response is when someone survives crime " at least she is alive" . This is the country that I love. no one can justify this outrageous actions any more. We have more people in prisons than the rest of Africa but yet we are lagging in arresting all criminals. We have a moral plus political problem that seems to be overlooked as long as it looks like we are all getting along. We need new management and then new enforcers of the law with direct consequence to the criminal’s live. Bring back the death penalty.

In the old days, a mans horse was his main means of making a living, basically his hold on life. How the Wild West was won was that they would hang horse thieves because they were taking away a mans means of providing for himself and his dependants. The same conditions exist in SA today whereby having a viechal is a means to maintaining a job and providing a living etc .Also many of us with cars battle to make the monthly payments on them just so we can keep a job.Having a car stolen affects us ordinary and decent,hard-working folks' livelehoods. So why can't we deal with our car thieves and hi-jackers in a similar fashion as hanging as what they do today is no different from that done by the horse-thieves of yester-year. If your not a car thieve then you should have no qualms about the death sentence............bottom line.

The ANC can't bring back the death penalty, that would be like giving the go-head for family killings. Death penalty = Less ANC voters.
