Hijackers shoot man in front of wife

2012-05-04 09:53

Pretoria - Hijackers shot and killed a man in front of his wife as the couple returned to their house in Centurion on Tuesday evening.

Beeld reported that Wouter de Bruyn, 46, and his wife, Marieke were getting out of their car in their garage at about 19:00 when the men attacked them and ordered them to lie down on the garage floor.

As De Bruyn lay down, they shot him.

His wife was not injured.

The three men drove off with the car and didn’t take any of the couple’s belongings.

The couple had recently installed cameras on the property and the suspects were clearly visible on the footage.

Pastor Mario Steyn of the Living Word church in Brummeria said the world had lost a disciple.

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-05-04 09:57

I hope they rot in jail.

      Clarence - 2012-05-04 10:13

It is quite clear that jail is not a deterrant for this criminals. This idiots should be hanged in public.

      Jed - 2012-05-04 10:16

Rot in Jail? I reckon we should lay the 3 of them down and put a bullet in them. Save's me having to pay to feed them.

      michael.a.devilliers - 2012-05-04 10:21

I think it's quite clear that nowhere in the world is jail or the death penalty a deterrent - they're not afraid of being caught because they believe the police force are incompetent.

      Gieljam - 2012-05-04 10:34

What a safe place indeed murders ad infinito ..These criminals are the scum of the earth cruel bastards with no respect for another persons life and less respect for a government useless in all aspects .

      Zambezi - 2012-05-04 10:44

Lets introduce public stoning as a means of punishment!

      Rob - 2012-05-04 11:09

This, no doubt is just another instance of members of the poor hungry masses, robbing the " rich " as the liberals & " others " would have you believe. Nothing racial in the killing of course as " we all suffer equally " in the name of violent " crime. " The killing of Mr de Bruyn makes this a hate crime in my books. Why bring race into it....Why not....This HAS everything to do with race.

      Rob - 2012-05-04 11:39

Omo...My response to you was removed by News24 ! Pity !

      Warren - 2012-05-04 12:03

FFS! Why not take the car & leave? If you want the electronics I'll even help you load them, it's all insured anyway. Just leave me ALIVE so I can raise my daughter! But by committing murder you've now put yourself squarely on the very top of the police's list of priorities, stupid DF's!!!

      James - 2012-05-04 12:08

Omo, the "father, husband , brother and friend" was killed by black people, as are 99.999999% of all hijackings, murders and rapes in this country. Yes, this act was a crime, but when almost 100% of violent crime is being committed by one race group - who is sowing the "seeds of devision"?

      Rob - 2012-05-04 12:17

@James. Exactly ! That was part of " removed " response to Omo.

      jacob.ndlovu.3 - 2012-05-04 13:42

Our only solution to the rampant crime is capital punishment, but with an inefficient and corrupt criminal justice system and government, what can one expect? How is it possible that South Africa is the only country in which one is more likely to be murdered than killed in a road acciden?South Africa is in a sad state of affairs. I feel very sorry for the farmers and all the people that get murdered in South Africa. The government has failed on so many levels...Its like a light switch for these scum bags to pull a trigger...South African white people are too complacent to do anything constructive about this. You all moan and groan about problems in SA and the crimes which I agree is shocking, but you never protest or do anything constructive to stop this madness.Arm yourselves especially if you are a farmer and defend yourselves because you cannot rely on the cops or the courts!Either a new competent government takes over or declare the Western Cape & Northern Cape a separate country or we just live in fear and misery!

      Lynne - 2012-05-05 05:51

If they ever look for them!

      Boer - 2012-05-19 01:29

And what colour person do you think is responsible for this sad case.???Seems like life is worth nothing in your wonderful new rainbow darkhole of a country. PACK UP AND LEAVE.

  • Piet - 2012-05-04 09:59

We need barbaric laws to deal with these barbarians!

      johncarlos.biza - 2012-05-04 10:24

      Mob justice

      Clifford - 2012-05-04 12:48

      And the GENOCIDE continues.....

      Craig - 2012-05-04 14:31

Just a pity the pres thinks SA is long as our 'leaders' are in denial, or just don't give a sh*t about its people just so long as they pay tax, these barbarians have free reign! Better yet, you take action and shoot someone in your house you get charged with murder...ANC logic 101!

      Denis - 2012-05-05 00:58

Is there a reason why we cant the Death Sentence debate cannot be subjected to a referendum and let the people decide? (The idea of burly old name called constitutional court judges sitting and scratching their balls and telling us its unconstitutional while our people are killed every day makes me sick).

  • evdwesthuizen1 - 2012-05-04 10:02

A needless death for a motor vehicle! Why kill the person? But this is what South Africa has become.

      Piet - 2012-05-04 10:05

      because ther are barbaric!

      Zambezi - 2012-05-04 10:54

      These bastards kill anyone.....!

      Atholl - 2012-05-05 09:53

--- they've done it before --- got away with it -- and you'll never catch me !! -- 'death for a motor vehicle' is near the end of the career of a criminal. It all starts with a little lie, a little theft, a little fraud, a little rape, a little robbery, a little bribe ... ... little crimes are not prosecuted or dockets are lost, statements fuddled, police inefficiency or refusal to prosecute little crimes ... the system lets them get away with little crimes ... so the 'you'll never catch me' mentality sets in ... little criminals are promoted to higher crime career until they are caught with severe crime. When these criminals are caught -- who knows -- they'll probably be connected to other unsolved, discarded, interfered with cases. ... it should be standard issue --- on the back of each orange overall -- the words 'you'll never catch me !'

  • Marion - 2012-05-04 10:03

Tragic. RIP and strength to your family and loved ones.

  • Loo - 2012-05-04 10:03

AGAIN ????!!! this makes me so so sick. condolences to the families, It is so so sad and unnecessary :(

  • Junebugg - 2012-05-04 10:04

These freakin Cowards, why not take what you want and leave people alone.. This is sick, I need to own a Gun!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Marion - 2012-05-04 10:27

Do you live in Gauteng? (Get a gun). Don't think it would help in a situation like this. My husband certainly was not prepared when three hijackers followed him into the garage and hijacked him at gunpoint. Fortunately they just made him put his hands above his head and then closed the garage door to trap him as long as possible.

  • Masenyetsi - 2012-05-04 10:04

What is happening in South Africa , is this last days according to the bible ? how dare they just kill a man in front of his wife . May he RIP very sad

  • i2meleng - 2012-05-04 10:10

Disgusted - why do we have such vicious attacks in this country. I wonder if such acts adds fuel to the already hot racism fire. N.B, I said nothing about skin colour.

      Piet - 2012-05-04 10:16

But you suggest and acknowledge it!

      Craig - 2012-05-04 14:42

Because our leaders to not promote peace and acceptance (or live it by not being criminals themselves)! Almost everything that came out of Mandela's mouth was about peace and harmony, and it seems like SA leaders forgot what was done by an amazing man that showed nothing but peace, forgiveness, understanding and upright citizenship. Just a pitty, 'leaders' now sing "kill the boer" and don't see the problem with it.

      sylvester - 2012-05-09 17:05

@i2meleng : South Africans are sooooooo artistic (especially the black South Africans). Why anybody should revert to violence, one will never know - but........... if the so-called asylum seekers, people from up North with their drugs, etc. can stay out of our country, if discipline and love can be brought back into homes, we will have a wonderful country. Discipline is something that is desperately lacking. We grew up in a home where you dare not back chat, you will obey your parents, you will not be seen in grown-up company, you were treated as a child. Nowadays, children want to tell their parents what to do and when to do it. A good hiding is what we got if we were cheeky or insubordinate - not today. If you look at all the disturbances, what do you see? Children rioting with the grown ups who were also brought up without discipline and respect for their elders. Today, you dare not give a child a well deserved hiding, and you can be locked up. Spare the rod, spoil the child.

  • Samantha - 2012-05-04 10:18

Why did they have to kill him or anyone?- just take the car and leave- its so common now :(- and they will probably not even get caught- did they catch the guys who killed the other guy trying to protect his girlfriend and children in their home?- very sad :(

  • elkita.robbertse - 2012-05-04 10:20

  • Edmund - 2012-05-04 10:20

Problem I see is with all the opinions nobody pays any attention. Too much to read and they have very little ability to pay attention. It would send a much clearer message if all anybody ever replied a bold DEATH PANALTY... everone just liked it or type that... message would be much clearer! ***************************** DEATH PENALTY

This was robery and murder... plain and simple.. you are definately no Horatio Kane.. Motives were purely criminal. These sensless murders occur every day in this country.

      HugoMabasa - 2012-05-04 21:54

why not kill the wife as well if it was a murdure spree?they normally kill to conceal evidence but why leave one alive?does sound like a hit.

  • Shirley - 2012-05-04 10:26

Condolences to his family! Every time this happens, the upstanding citizens of our country are outraged but left holding the rage and no answer or solution. I think its time we started making our voices heard with regards to either the death penaly or some form of punishemnt to fit these dispicable acts, committed by despicable people! We need to start claiming our country back form the thugs that keave us behind fences, bars, alarms and livib=ng in fear!We need to stand together and and make powers tht be hear and listen!!! Nobody deserves to die like this. A family has been torn apart,a country further scarred! Let us demand our country back from the murderers! When unions strike-they are heard........

  • Ann - 2012-05-04 11:25

This story churns up terrible memories for me. Same modus operani just 5 months ago, 3 guys, no resistace and my partner was murdered. My heart goes out to Marieke and may Wouters soul RIP. Seeing your husband murdered will never leave you. The pain and destruction these murderers leave in their wake is indescribable, they ruin peoples lives. And yet it continues un-abated and un-checked. This case may get some attention because it made the headlines. My partners murder didn't and I have given up on the SAPS, they have done absolutely nothing nor will they. It is hard living day to day knowing that these murderers are out there doing the same to other people. While the innocent live in jails, the murderers are walking the streets. While we have to pay through our teeth for councelling just to be able to try and return to some kind of functional normality on a day to day basis, they feel nothing. I am sure that I am going to get some nasty feedback but I am going to put it out there. Even though you cannot judge a whole race (and I never have, I judge people on their merits) based on a few individuals I can at the moment not look at a strange black man and not feel fear. This said the most compassionate and condemning people at my place of work after the incident were the black people both male and female. And their first question to me was "were they black?". Their response when I said yes is unpublishable. We have all had enough irrespective of colour.

      Ann - 2012-05-04 11:30

ps. I know this article did not mention race, I am merely sharing my experience. And yes I know it goes both ways. Murder is just wrong.. no matter who commits it and leaves a lasting perception for the people affected.

      Marion - 2012-05-04 12:31

@Ann - Sincere condolences to you and your loved ones. As you say, murder is wrong, no matter who the perpetrator is.

  • ErikMagnetoMaier - 2012-05-04 11:30

are u kidding??? why must they always kill? The couple obviously obeyed when they were ordered to lie down. They just wanted this hellish ordeal to be over, and they were willing to give them their car. Why must they still shoot the husband? That poor woman now lost the love of her life for no reason. Well done idiots. Hope you rot in hell.

  • manqoba.ian - 2012-05-04 11:41

The pastor is right, the world has lost some discipline why doez hijackers didn't take any thing, thats mean they were sent or there was some deals offered for them

  • Ngwana - 2012-05-04 11:59

This is really appalling. Is this because our justice system is weak?

      Craig - 2012-05-04 14:57

Yes, and the fact that our Prez publicly admits that's SA is safe and 'leaders' promote murder through songs!

      Lacrimose - 2012-05-05 15:17

Justice system is part of the problem but Justice comes at the end, after crimes have been committed. There are a lot of really sick and dangerous people out there and the factors leading to them being that way are also not being addressed.

  • Angelica - 2012-05-04 11:59

    Bring Back the death penalty!

  • Angelica - 2012-05-04 12:00

Our justice system does not work anymore.. they want to kill so kill them!!!!

  • paullombard17 - 2012-05-04 12:02

F@#king barbaric animals!!! ..Im speechless and shocked to say the least with the callous brutality of this crime, this is not isolated and happens all the time- Give justice China style - 1 bullet straight after being found guilty. No appeals, no leniency !!

  • sharon.truebodyvice - 2012-05-04 12:13

I hope justice does not fail (YET AGAIN)

  • nduduzo2 - 2012-05-04 12:18

This country needs a powerful prayer and DEATH PENALTY. These scumbags deserve to die in the most vicious way. Our government is just something else.....

  • Jacqui - 2012-05-04 12:19

Why shoot the man when he is lying down?. What horrible criminals this country has. Makes one wonder why no Minister will ever speak out about the level of crime. Incapable and totally worthless, the whole bunch of them.

      Wisemad Mcmawle - 2012-05-04 13:33

ministers they wont talk about this killings cause is not affecting them they have a 24/7 protection and we pay the bill. What we have to do is to work together with the same unity we use against sanral the sooner the better how many deffenceless peoples have been killed by robbers this week only

  • nxulu3 - 2012-05-04 12:21

Clearly these morons did not go there to hijack but to kill, I think they were sent by someone.

  • Erich - 2012-05-04 12:45

This sad incident happened in Rooihuiskraal. The deceased was cold-bloodedly killed as he offered no resistence. The ANC is intent on not bringing the death penalty back and this kind of incident is going to incite law abiding citizens to apply lynch law.

  • Malavi10 - 2012-05-04 12:56

why was the guy shoot and the wife was not even injured? insurance money perhaps?

  • Lans - 2012-05-04 13:55

  • Yolandi - 2012-05-04 13:56

That is just disgusting. My thoughts are with the family, i truly hope the death penalty comes back for these people that keep taking someone's live!!!!!!!!! MAY THEY ROT IN HELL.

      Gee - 2012-05-04 14:58

Yolandi...sorry to say, they'll not rot in jail. Sooner or later some or other showerhead will release them early to kill another day.

  • Jacques - 2012-05-04 14:03

Always carry a showerhead with you .See our dear pres he is untouchable . This goverment is not competent to sort this problem or any other. We as law abiding citizens can also blame ourselves . We moan and groan and voice our disgust everyday . Bring the country to a standstill and demand

  • Rodolfo - 2012-05-04 14:08

A family torn apart who will feel the pain and strain for years to come. The death penalty is almost fitting.

  • alu.ntsandeni - 2012-05-04 14:11

We need to bring death penalty, this is getting out of hand.
