Johannesburg - A 5-year-old boy was stabbed several times by hijackers in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Monday.

His father was hijacked by three men in Trichardt Road around 19:00 on Sunday when he stopped at a robot, said spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini.

"They blocked his vehicle and pointed him with a firearm. He was then pushed out of the vehicle and the suspects drove away with the vehicle while his son was inside.

"At a later stage his vehicle was found abandoned and his son was found lying on the ground with injuries. He was immediately taken to the hospital," said Dlamini.

The boy is in a stable condition in hospital.

Police appealed to anyone with information on this crime to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or SMS information to Prime Media Crime Line at 32211 at all hours.
