Durban - The State has withdrawn charges against one of four people accused of human trafficking and keeping a brothel.

Prosecutor Val Daffol told the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday that charges against Urmila Budram, 59, had been dropped.

She did not say why.

Budram was arrested with three other people when 16 girls, eight of them minors, were rescued from a building in the Point area, in Durban.

Some of the girls were as young as 12-years-old, and some allegedly under the influence of drugs when they were rescued.

The girls were thought to have been used as drug mules.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson, said it was premature for the State to say why the charges were withdrawn against Budram.

Other accused are: Nonduzo Dlamini, 23; Bhabha Dubazini, 29; and Sandile Zweni.

They face charges of dealing in cocaine, human trafficking, keeping a brothel, and living on the earnings of prostitution.

The three told the court they would be represented by private attorneys.

The matter was postponed to March 20, for them to apply for bail, Daffol said.

Me thinks Mr Budrum might have some dirt on a couple of honourable comrades.

Budrum is a woman. Not that I think this excuses her at all if she was involved.

The other accused sound Black, Urmila Budram sounds Indian.

Point police station is run by just another gang of criminals. I have dealt with this group of scumbags many times. I have seen more honour in a pool-room gangbang. Someone got something to lose the evidence. This part of Durban is run by West Africans.

they can afford private attorneys? Oh sorry, I forgot. They have made a few hundred thousand off their illegal activities.

Bring on "The Untouchables" Sort out this sordid exploitation, from top to bottom, especially at the top, once and for all. How come a person involved is allowed to "walk"?
