Inmates hold Free State doctor hostage

2012-11-19 16:39

Bloemfontein - Two inmates at the Mangaung Correctional Centre outside Bloemfontein, are holding a doctor hostage, Free State police confirmed on Monday.

Sergeant Thabo Litabe said he could confirm only that the doctor had been held hostage by the two inmates since 10:35.

The police task force and hostage negotiators are at the scene and attempting to defuse the situation, Litabe told OFM.

The inmates are demanding to be transferred to a prison in Gauteng.

Litabe told OFM a nurse was initially held hostage with the doctor, but she has meanwhile been released unharmed.

One inmate is doing time for rape, and the other for robbery, theft and unlawful possession of fire arms, OFM reported Litabe as saying.

The facility is privately operated by G4S, a British multinational security services company, in partnership with the government.

Where is COSATU? For too long now has prisoners right to choose and where and with whom they are locked up being ignored by the oppressive capitalists. Do we sound familiar? Please stop the silent diplomacy and start taking control. You arel looking like spineless leaders. Are you in charge or is the Mafia now in charge of the prisons too? Next to strike will be the Unemployed. They have a union, mind you! www.strikeback.co.za

This is seriously easy to sort out, send them to solitary in a c-max facility in gauteng. And then allow the doctors to exercise their right to treat them!
