Interpreter in court for corruption

Johannesburg - An interpreter at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court appeared in the same court on Tuesday on a charge of corruption, Limpopo police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Winnie Chauke, 52, was arrested on Monday after she allegedly accepted a R1 500 bribe from an undercover police officer who posed as a criminal.

The money was allegedly still in her possession during the arrest.

Police investigations found that Chauke had also received a phone call from an awaiting trial prisoner, who was in custody for a series of armed robberies in and around Polokwane and Mankweng.

The prisoner's girlfriend is alleged to have planned to hand over money to Chauke in return for the cases against him to be withdrawn.

Chauke is due to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Friday for her bail application.

How can an interpreter have cases withdrawn? Who else is involved in this??

yes this was my question, unless she had access to make files disappear. The more corruption is reported and rooted out the better/faster service delivery will be everywhere. Citizens need to keep reporting this scourge.

Ah the sweet smell of Africa - corruption. However, we have been told this is normal and just like crime in general, it's everywhere. OK, so it's quite acceptable then and nothing to worry about - good, now I'll sleep better.
