Cape Town - An inquest docket has been opened after the
police's flying squad shot dead a man and injured another during a high-speed
chase in Kuils River, Cape Town.
“We are investigating and have opened an inquest on our side
as there was a shoot-out,” Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson
Grace Langa said on Thursday.
The shoot-out took place on the corner of Nooiensfontein
Road and Stellenbosch Arterial Road on Wednesday morning, after police
apparently received a tip-off that a group was planning to rob a mall.
The gang of six was travelling in a Toyota Corolla that was
reported hijacked and another vehicle when police apprehended them.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said
they arrested four suspects between the ages of 22 and 25.
The vehicles and two firearms were seized.
“No Saps members were injured nor the Saps vehicle damaged
in the incident,” Van Wyk said.
The four would appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court
soon.
