Johannesburg - Residents of a building in Jeppestown, central Johannesburg, have allegedly set a building alight after being forcefully evicted by the Red Ants, the city's Emergency Management Services said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said there were unconfirmed reports that the residents had set the building on fire.

Firefighters were still on the scene extinguishing the fire, which began around 11:00.

No injuries were reported. The evicted residents were standing outside the building, Mulaudzi said.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said he was not aware of any case of arson having been opened with the police.
