Joburg baby kidnapped

2013-01-09 14:45

Johannesburg - A 6-month-old baby was kidnapped and his nanny almost killed in Bezuidenhout Valley, Johannesburg police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said police were searching for a Pakistani couple who were renting a room in the house where the attack took place on Tuesday.

"It is alleged that the couple were tenants at a house in Bezuidenhout Valley and had not paid rent for December 2012."

He said it was suspected they tried to kill the nanny by slitting her throat with a sharp object.

The nanny was found by the owner of the house in a critical condition before being taken to a local hospital.

"It is suspected that the couple with their three children are still in Gauteng.

"The woman is allegedly pregnant," Dlamini said.

Police appealed to anyone with information of their whereabouts to come forward.

Surely this article can provide more information about the suspects so that members of the public can keep and eye out and/or let the police know if they have any information. They must have names and photos of these people surely???

My heart breaks for this mother. I cannot begin to imagine her distress. Hopefully this baby will be found and returned to the mother very soon, unharmed. Thoughts are with this family!

I just wish the nanny has nothing to do with this

      mcedise.l.buhlungu - 2013-01-09 16:31

How can the nanny have something to do with this? Her throat was slit. She's just lucky to be alive. Please, read the article again and see for yourself.

      tasneem.cader.7 - 2013-01-09 17:01

The nanny wasn't just tied up,she had a slit in her throat an almost died! Seriously?

      siphom.mnguni - 2013-01-09 17:48

@furlong:)you are deranged. Your fertile imagination works wonders, congratulations. How can somebody have her throat slit, yet she is involved. Stupidity of the worst proportion.

Foreigners again!!!These Pakistanis have invaded South Africa in their thousands. They must be brought to book!!God willing, the baby will be found soon.Praying that the nanny recovers soon.

      Umer - 2013-01-10 09:32

Please do not generalize and drag all foreigners by labeling this incident to them. Crimes in south Africa has been a long and the most concern issue. Not all crimes committed by foreigners. Most of the immigrants are contributing towards the betterment of this country’s economy.

What kind of a human are you to steal another woman's child when you yourself have 3 kids already and another on the way. I hope that they find them and the baby is safely returned to the mother. Speedy recovery to the nanny.

  • amanda.bugatti - 2013-01-10 06:40

WTF is wrong with SA Border Security??? These Pakistani's invade our country to visit and then disappear only to marry SA citizen girls or get them pregnant as so many others foreigners do! That way they get SA citizenship!! Do SA citizens go to Pakistan n commit these crimes? Now all eyes is on the nanny, and so invaders slip easy away! People pls be cautious when been approached by foreigners especially Pakistani's and Arabs!! Stand UP for your rights people!these invaders enter our beautiful country only to commit crimes, hurt our children n take away our jobs that is our right as SA citizens!ever noticed how difficult it is to enter UK or Australia n many other counties? Coz they PROTECT what belongs to them!! How unhuman to steal an innocent baby? May they be caught and severely punished! And if it turns out the nanny was involved she should be deported if she is a foreigner n never be allowed to work as a nanny again!its way to easy to enter SA!! I do hope n pray the baby is found safe n returned to the parents!

This is the most racist comment here that I have seen. I think you need get your fact straight here. Majority of Pakistanis are running their own businesses and created hundreds of job opportunities for the local citizens. Migration is not an easy thing to do. It takes lot of courage to go away from you family and country to find a better future for your family. There are good and bad people everywhere. You cannot blame the whole community for one bad act. I pray that a baby is in good health and police can locate those criminals. As a Pakistani I would like to ask all my community to assist the local police to find the culprits and bring them to justice.

Amanda! Did you just add the nanny as a suspect

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2013-01-10 09:23

Really how one human being can do this to another leaves me stone cold. Seems today the more brutal the attack the more mucho it makes the perpetrator feel. We are living in a sick society, whereby criminals roam around free and people live in fear of their own shadow. Lovely Country we live in. Crime is top dog here.

  • mokgadim - 2013-01-10 10:24

This is just one more reason why i'd rather be called paranoid...
