Joburg cop facing 14 rape counts

2013-07-22 11:33

Johannesburg - A Randburg police constable is expected to appear in court on Tuesday on charges of rape, robbery and kidnapping, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said.

"These alleged crimes were committed between 2011 and 2012, in and around Tembisa, Olifantsfontein, Ivory Park, Randburg and other areas," spokesperson Moses Dlamini said on Monday.

"The case was investigated by the Ipid and has resulted in it making recommendations to prosecute to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP has agreed and decided to prosecute."

The 30-year-old constable faces 14 counts of rape, nine of robbery and 14 of kidnapping.

"The suspect has been in custody since he was arrested in July 2012. He applied unsuccessfully for bail on numerous occasions," he said.

And he's one of the better ones . . .

      jeremy thorpe - 2013-07-22 11:58

That's a bit harsh Henry. For what it's worth, I've had only the very best service from the guys at Parkview police station. But, as others, have said here, it's not surprising that people don't trust the cops when there are thugs like this masquerading as policemen. With any luck he'll go to jail for the rest of his life - and he really will need to take a big tub of vaseline!

      Henry Hattingh - 2013-07-22 15:58

Jeremy I hear you. I know there are some good police officers out there. My problem is that they(the good ones) 9 out of 10 times know what is going on right under their noses. Most would NOT blow the whistle or testify against their colleagues. Who could blame them ? Risking their and their loved ones lives for what ?? My point is, its the whole system that's sick. We need the broom of change. We need a wake up and a shake up from top to bottom. We need strong leaders to stand up and say enough is enough.

And now they wonder why South Africans don't have any trust in the SAP anymore. They should use him as an example to show the people that they do not tolerate this behaviour anymore - yet maybe the do

      Zakhele Justice Sithole - 2013-07-22 12:11

Is not about SAPS only bt is about a person anyway such behavier damages SAPS reputation

      Gabby Stone - 2013-07-22 12:39

No Zakhele, this happens way too often to be a coincidence!! I also know of other cases that don't make it onto the news. A family friend's daughter (15) was arrested for shoplifting and then raped in the police cells by one of the officers. SAPS in general is rotten, only a few good ones left

      Stephen Mulomba - 2013-07-22 12:05

The law finally getting it right and denying these animals bail. Its shocking how many times we read about them repeating the crime when out on bail and yet some judges still find it fitting to grant bail to these animals.

      Bheki Dladla - 2013-07-22 12:29

@Stephen, you are quite right boet some of them if not all just never learn at all. i really respect and commend the judge who denied him bail he most definitely doesnt diserve it. i hope he lost his job too because he is bringing the whole SAPS into disrepute and just undermine everything some of the good guys try to live up to and uphold.

So... when I am confronted by a police man, would my first assumption be, that he is a thieving rapist, run like hell! Or how do we distinguish between the good and the bad cops?

      Just Me - 2013-07-22 12:39

A good cop wont harass or ask for a bribe or force you into rape. There are some good ones out there and, it is a crying shame that the rotten ones, give the good ones a bad name. How must the good ones feel? They bow their heads in shame, to have thought that he might have been one of the team that is supposed to maintain and enforce the law. THERE ARE STILL GOOD COPS OUT THERE!!!!

      Sanet Oelofse - 2013-07-23 19:21

This is what happens when you drop your entrance requirements and don't do psychometric testing on applicants. What better job is there for a criminal than being a policemen - because they get provided with a vehicle, gun and uniform at the taxpayers expense to assist them with their criminal activities.

@justme. Even if you cant publish the letter that SAPU have written about Lieutenant General Mzwandile Petrosyourself - there are plenty of ways of getting it published i.e. upload onto Crimeline website, send to Noseweek, send to Wikileaks etc. PROVIDED it is supported by documentary evidence.

  • Siphiwo Khuzwayo - 2013-07-22 13:23

If all these allegations are true, this is not a cop. He is a waste ready to be thrown into a dustbin of history. It would also be better if all these alleged crimes, he committed after being recuited to the SAPS,for if not, then we will question how he joined the SAPS.

  • Simphiwe Tladi - 2013-07-22 13:40

  • Confitebor Clementissime Kecharitomine - 2013-07-22 14:11

I don’t know what criteria is used to employ cops, whatever it maybe it’s highly disadvantageous, you can’t run to a police station nowadays for protection, all they know is to certify copies, and sometime they don’t even see the difference between an original document and a copy

  • Yvonne Homan - 2013-07-22 14:20

Nothing surprises and shocks me anymore. Except for two hands full of good hard working dedicated policemen. The crimes were committed in various areas during 2011 and 2012, yet no other police station caught this man earlier before he carried on hurting innocent victims. This dirty son of a "B**tch mother F***cking animal I hope you get more than you deserve. I just hope that state has enough Vaseline for you as the tax man is not prepared to waste it on pigs like you. This male slut was and I quote ""The case was investigated by the Ipid and has resulted in it making recommendations to prosecute to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The DPP has agreed and decided to prosecute" Since when must DPP agree & decide to prosecute. This barbaric animal was investigated, applied for numerous unsuccessful bail applications and has been in custody since July 2012 at the tax payers expense, why is it only now that they have "agreed and decided" to prosecute. Why was it not done when he was investigated or were they waiting for him to rape again this time an inmate? Apologies to the public for using bad language but this inhumane sicko has robbed, kidnapped and raped innocent people leaving them traumatized and scarred for life.

      Karabo Jake Matlala - 2013-07-23 05:08

It is the role NDPP to decide whether the case has reasonable prospect of success. To be arrested does not mean you are automatically guilty. The suspect must be linked with the crime via evidence eg finger print, DNA etc. Its not wise to take a weak case to court because it will be dismissed.

These things are simply happening because in this country you can commit a crime with the chance being 20% of being caught and a fraction of that to get locked up. And having the president we have as a leader does not help much either.
