Johannesburg taxi rank assault condemned

2012-01-03 20:06

Johannesburg - The reported harassment and groping of two teenagers at the Noord Street taxi rank in central Johannesburg is a setback in the struggle for women's rights, a trade union said on Tuesday.

"The backward, chauvinistic and ugly scene where two teens were being harassed by taxi rank lumpens, or the dangerous class, should be condemned by all," National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) spokesperson Castro Ngobese said in a statement.

"The action of these lumpens that women should not wear miniskirts in public, including taxi ranks, borders on societal patriarchy and relegation of women into cheap sexual commodities as fostered and entrenched by [the] capitalist system."

The two teenagers were harassed and groped in public on Friday because one of them wore a miniskirt.

The Sowetan newspaper reported on Tuesday that a 17-minute long clip of CCTV footage shows one girl, wearing a black miniskirt, emerging from a shop where a crowd of between 50 and 60 men had gathered.

They follow her, groped her and took photos with their cellphones, the Sowetan reported.

She screamed at her tormentors and occasionally tried to punch them as they groped her. When her friend tried to help her she was also abused.

Johannesburg metro police intervened and accompanied the girl in the miniskirt home. A nearby businessman pulled the other into his shop. Metro police arrived a few minutes later and escorted her away.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane also condemned the incident.

"We learned with a deep sense of sadness and anger about the abuse of two young women on December 30 last year, because of their clothing," she said in a statement.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms the animal-like behaviour of those men involved - some old enough to be the young women's fathers - where some males went as far as groping the young women."

This was reminiscent of an attack on another woman, Nwabisa Ngcukana, at the same taxi rank four years ago, said Mokonyane. She was stripped and sexually molested, for wearing a miniskirt.

"This incident not only tells us that women are still facing serious challenges of discrimination and gender-based violence, but also demonstrates that this taxi rank is becoming notorious for behaviour that goes against the moral fibre of the society we are trying to build," she said.

There is NO difference between this and dressing women in burkas and telling them its for their own good. As usual women get blamed for men who can't control their base instincts... sick!

      Squeegee - 2012-01-03 20:30

Absolutely unacceptable behaviour. detestable pigs. Cretins.

      Johncarlos Cynical Biza - 2012-01-03 20:32

Ironic that the men who demand women wear burkas claim moral superiority over us western men. Surely if you have morals, you should be able to show civility to others regardless of what they wear. I personally would suffer more in a society where they dress conservatively! A lady in a sexy miniskirt adds an extra pleasant dimension to an insipid moment.

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 20:43

So if you know of previous cases where Men have raped other Women or assaulted them because of the way they were dressed you will go and do the same? Forgive me ma'am but that just does not make sense. If you want to walk around half naked then do so at home at least or in an area which allows that kind of dress code. As much as you expect all "Men" to respect your rights to dress the way you want you also need to respect the fact that not all "Men" were brought up to respect Women. If I visit a game reserve which has Lions in it I do not pour blood over my head and run up to them to play with the kitty's. I stay in my car and follow the rules. Dont get me wrong I am all for Womens rights. Please believe me. It is just not safe and you need to be careful. That is a fact.

      Johncarlos Cynical Biza - 2012-01-03 21:26

@Shaun in a fairly modern area like Joburg, it is acceptable to walk around in a miniskirt. Except for maybe the taxi rank, her dress code was perfectly common for the area she was at. I cannot see why you'd accuse her of walking around 'half-naked at an inappropriate area'.

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 21:32

@ Johncarlos the fact that this is not the first incident in a taxi rank in and around Johannesburg is my motivation for saying that dressing in that way was inappropriate for that area. Just try and understand I do not think the Women were wrong in the way they dressed. I just feel they made the wrong choice to be seen in that dress code inside a taxi rank which has been known to be dangerous for young Women dressed like that. Thus my example below of playing with Lions in a game reserve when the warnings at the gates clearly state they are dangerous.

      Be - 2012-01-03 22:18

Shaun, perhaps the taxi rank should have warning signs saying: "Women in Miniskirts Beware! Sexually uncontrollable male animals at loose in this vicinity" ... Then it would be reasonable to expect women in miniskirts to avoid the area. ... and why should any civilised person respect the fact that not all men were brought up to respect women??? That's like asking people to respect the fact that some people were brought up to believe that battering and raping women is okay. Think about your illogical 'reasoning', lad.

      John - 2012-01-03 23:04

@ Shaun.... You all for women's rights??? And at the same time telling women that they should dress in a manner that is acceptable to men? Can't have it both ways boet...

      Shaun - 2012-01-04 04:49

@ signs needed. Just watch the news and read the papers from a year ago or possibly longer. Even this case is a warning that there are "animals" out there. As for your "illogical 'reasoning'" comment. My only reply is we all live in an illogical World these days. A little bit of logic can go a long way though if you really think about it in order to protect yourself. @ John I dont expect Women to dress the way Men want them. If you read further down I made a point about Women dressing the way Men would like them to dress in order to get attention. What other reason does a young Lady wear a short skirt in public? My point is if you know you are in danger dressing that way walking around taxi ranks then you decide. Dress sexy and receive this treatment or dress accordingly and not make front page news for being assaulted by these barbarians. To be honest like I said above a little logic goes a long way. Question to everyone who thinks I am wrong is would you advise your daughters or wives to walk around a taxi rank alone in a short mini skirt? I certainly would not. Then again that is my opinion ladies and gentlemen.

      Niekie - 2012-01-04 06:29

Just another example that they are animals, not human!

      Elle-Black - 2012-01-04 08:07

@ Shaun I am a woman but i must admit you make very valid points, regardless of how much condemnation there is for their behaviour taxi dirvers will not change, Everybody who uses taxis or has used taxis in the past knows very well that Noord taxi rank is the pits with the most vile individuals lurking around there, why go there in a mini skirt? i made the mistake of doing that a while back and i was called every deragotory name you could possibly imagine, I would not advise anyone to do it,yes it is your right to wear what you want but psychos dont really care about that.

      Lyndatjie - 2012-01-04 09:04

Shaun.... on this thread we are lamenting the fact that women are blamed for some men's actions. But now that you've opened this pathetic patriarchial can of worms - lets talk about it.... Men can wear what ever they want - be it bare-chested at the promenade where I work, or a speedo imprinting their genitals for everybody to see. Or rubbing their naked bellies at a taxi rank. Men can go anywhere they want without the fear of being sexually harassed, groped or raped. Women can't do any of this... why? Can women rape, grope and sexually harass themselves? No - all of the above is done by MEN.... no wait - let me rephrase that... all of the above is done by things calling themselves "men". Real men would never hurt or demean a woman for her choices or blame them for their own lack of control. So this thread is to get some of you to understand that we as women are prisoners because of MEN. Whether it is living in the middle east with a cloth draped over us from head to toe. Or dressing in long pants and skirts to stop us being groped at a taxi rank. Or putting our girls in cages to protect them from being abused by "men" looking for excuses for their inability to think of women/girls as anything BUT a sexual object. So people like you are the ones who stood at THAT taxi rank and GROPED and harassed that young girl. After all - its for her own good and she was looking for it. Right? Condemn the action of the men instead of blaming the women for men's actions.

      Russ - 2012-01-04 09:49

The actions of the perpetrators remain despicable and unacceptable. I think what Shaun is saying is that sometimes, and unfortunately so, we have to adapt because of the ill-behaviour of others. I am obliged to protect my family against robbers by installing an alarm system and paying for armed response. Although I don't want to, it's unavoidable. It's not wrong for women to wear miniskirts, but because we can't control the behaviour of others (like the perps in this story), perhaps other attire would have been more prudent. I am not blaming the women for this shocking incident, but sometimes we all have to give up some of our freedom under certain circumstances.

      Lyndatjie - 2012-01-04 11:17

Isn't it sad that its only WOMEN who give up some of their freedom? In a thread later on Shaun intimates that women get raped because of what they wear. Do you not see the archaic thinking in this? The old woman of 90 who were raped - what on earth was she wearing to "set the man off"? Or the little girl of 5 who were playing in her jeans and t-shirt in the safety of her own garden? Or the two women who came from Church and who were abducted and gang raped - what did they wear to inflame the lust of the men? Her friend - who was perfectly attired - tried to help her and she was groped as well. So I'm getting slightly annoyed and heavily irritated with people saying we as women should attire ourselves appropriately.... Just exactly what is considered appropriate? In the middle east women wear full length cloths with mesh over their eyes. And STILL they get raped... So I'm sorry - but using our attire - is just another way to excuse men when they rape women. These girls thought they were safe and their rights would not be violated... How sad that this was not the case and they were left to be mauled, pawed, grobed and humiliated by very "men" who felt they could violate a woman because its their right as men. Like Numsa said: Women are still regarded as cheap sexual commodities. And with ALL you people agreeing that these women should have dressed better - you are sending a CLEAR message to the men - that they were within their rights to take this action. Sis!

      ArchAngel - 2012-01-04 23:32

@Lyndatjie: I admire your courage and I support your viewpoint just as much as I share your outrage. Blame the victim has become a national ploy by this cANCer regime. From Showerhead himself down to the lowly police constable that blames law abiding citizens that wear their property (jewelry) in public as the reason they were robbed. If this taxi rank was know to harbor such animals why do the police not patrol it regularly? Because the police detailed to patrol this area share the same mindset. A tribalist mindset that equates women to property to be traded, bought or sold at the whim of their male masters. DESPICABLE! Have you noticed how quiet the female cANCer ministers are on this disgrace?

  • Johncarlos Cynical Biza - 2012-01-03 20:24

I have grown to expect anything from the taxi industry. They are the absolute lowest of scum.

  • Peter - 2012-01-03 20:26

A pile of insecure men out there. Crazy!!!

      Russ - 2012-01-04 10:35

Hey Peter, what really fascinates me is how some guys turn into animals when they're in a crowd. They act in a way which they never would if they were, as in this case, alone in the taxi-rank. The guy next to them does something outrageously stupid and they lose all self-control.

  • emgro.natrology - 2012-01-03 20:27

  • ailsa.j.loudon - 2012-01-03 20:29

The men in this country need to catch a wake up call and control themselves! Disgusting behaviour!! I hope the CCTV footage is used to charge them with sexual assault etc!

      Ben - 2012-01-03 20:50

Control is the difference between civilised and uncivilised. We cannot expect control at a taxi rank in S.A.

  • Shaun - 2012-01-03 20:31

I truly hate saying this but we are all living in a World where people are not what they used to be like in the past. White or black it seems most Men are controlled by their genitals and terms like chivalry and gentlemen are words forgotten too easily. What could they be thinking by acting this way towards these Women? What did we honestly expect when the porn industry pumps out movies which our young Men watch showing Women to be "slaves" to our desires and treated as objects instead of being shown the respect they deserve! Islam teaches that none is closer to God than a Mother, for she has the power to create life within her. That alone should be taught to all young boys while growing up. Not that there is ever an excuse for the way these Men acted towards these Woman but it does not help the situation when Women dress the part and arouse weak minded immature baffoons who cannot understand that acting like an animal is NOT acceptable in our day and age. In my honest opinion Men have always been weak minded immature baffoons around Women. The day the World started falling apart was the day when Women started acting like Men wanted them to act. Like it says in the Bible. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was the one where he made everyone believe he never existed. My point is we all need to be more responsible in the way we act and treat those around us. Acting like animals is why our species went through a period called the "dark ages". Deje vu much?

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 20:47

@ Shaun You don't seriously suggest that the guilty persons in this instance acted as they did because they have been watching porn? Please. Many other persons outside the taxi landscape watch porn. Do they react the same or are we observing a different culture in action?

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 20:53

@ Cracker I am not saying it is the only reason but when you are exposed to that sort of material from a young age and your opinions of Women are based on what you see there then yes it is certainly not a positive influence. Please dont tell me you are admitting to be a pro-porn supporter on a public forum? Thank goodness you are using a fake name unlike me who stands by what he believes in sir.

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 20:54

@ Shaun Would you mind informing how the devil, according to you now, manages to make everyone believe that he never existed? And of course how god allows him to get away with it and deceive the rest of us? And why? Part of a kind of wager between the two? In the meanwhile the divine manufacturing/assembly line keeps increasing the rate of manufacturing of more lost souls and more hell inhabitants. God is actually encouraging the increase of inhabitants in hell. You may just start appreciating the distaste one experiences for the religious mind. What you say? Not so? A real challenge I would suggest.

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 21:01

I am unashamedly a supporter of the AVAILABILITY of porn. Don't try to get get clever with me.

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 21:03

@ Cracker firstly I am not religious but am well versed in ancient holy scriptures. I used those two as examples of what mankind should look out for on one hand and aspire to be more like on the other. I personally do not believe in a "devil" or an opposite of that but rather in a "creator". My fondest line which I still believe in is "I truly found God after I lost religion". That aside and your question answered how about you answer me by telling me the truth about you being a pro-porn supporter on a public forum. With a fake name might I add sir.

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 21:04

And Shaun, I responded to you. NOW YOU take on the argument(s) I forwarded. Don't be a coward by trying to silently slip away.

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 21:16

@ Cracker by your desperate responses seperated by only a few minutes and your "Don't try to get get clever with me" comment I fear you are way too biased to have any form of decent debate regarding this topic. Spending too much time alone in a dark room with a bottle of lubricant does that to a Man unfortunately I have heard. Perhaps if you found a decent Woman to show you what true respect for a Woman was all about you would watch less porn. Or at least stop making a fool of yourself by admitting you support the very material which could have caused these Men to act in this way. Good luck with your "love life" otherwise sir.

      Kraken - 2012-01-03 21:19

And the winner is.... Shaun. Now stop this irrelevant discussion.

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 21:24

Something to add, Shaun. Since when is the use of your real identity such a persuasive tool? When you fail to deal with arguments and facts you find solace (excuses would be more accurate) in the fact that those responsible for the said valid observations and facts write here under a pseudonym. Do you really think that my actual identity will change the validity of everything you have been alleging on this forum? You may now just start appreciating...never mind. Go to channel 125 DSTV right now to observe first hand how destructive your so-called god can exercise his dislikes on innocent people who have not asked to be here. I challenge you. Then come back with your narrow-minded cr.p.

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 21:34

@ Shaun As an aside, I don't watch or own porn. But what is it with you that your dragged porn into the discussion?

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 21:48

@ Cracker I was merely stating that using your real name gives credibility to your comments. Supporting an industry which shows Women to be "slaves" and "objects of lust" is just not my cup of tea. Perhaps you would be less supportive of this sex industry you so strongly support if you were using your real name. Are you afraid your Wife or children (if you even actually have any of these) might see you for who you truly are? Then again I doubt that would ever happen. It takes a brave Man to say what he believes in and then stand accountable for those comments sir. As for getting my knowledge on my creator from a DSTV channel I will pass thanks. Like I said before I do not bend my knee for any god. Its that simple sir.

      Cracker - 2012-01-03 21:59

@ Shaun Your thinking is undisciplined. But respond to my other points. You are evadinbg what I said.

      John - 2012-01-03 23:15

@ Shaun.. Could you please elaborate. ""Like it says in the Bible. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was the one where he made everyone believe he never existed"" As a biblical scholar You have lost me here. I don't think we should blame porn or any other media for there behavior. I'm tired of people finding reason or excuses as to their bad behavior. We are responsible for our own behavior irrespective of what porn, alcohol, drugs, etc, etc may have to offer

      Shaun - 2012-01-04 05:12

@ John...oops you got me there buddy. Many apologies. Dont know if that was a typo or the fact that I wrote it way past my bedtime but that phrase was actually written by Charles Baudelaire from the book "The Generous Gambler" (Feb. 1864). Regardless the phrase has meaning and is relative to the point I was making. You did understand the point though right? As for making excuses for our actions I agree BUT not all Men and sometimes Women are as upstanding as you or I sir. We need to take all the precautions we can in order to protect ourselves and our families. Thus when my wife dresses in a short mini skirt and says she is going to go to the centre of Johannesburg to take photos for her job of people in taxi ranks I say "perhaps you should wear something a little more appropriate for the occasion". Perhaps jeans? Then again my Wife has more common sense not to dress like that in an area like that and then wait for me to warn her of the dangers. Would you sir allow your daughter or Wife to visit this taxi rank ALONE dressed in a short mini skirt knowing what they might experience there? I would assume you are a clever Man John and advise them against it right?

      Russ - 2012-01-04 11:43

@ Cracker. There is nothing to suggest that porn played a role here. I am convinced though, that porn does influence thoughts, attitudes and in many cases, sexual behaviour. I served as a Public Prosecutor in the Regional Court for 8 years, and I found, WITHOUT FAIL, that EVERY sexual offender in cases of child abuse, used or was using pornography, or had it in his possession at the time of the offence(s). I re-iterate - I am not remotely suggesting every user of porn is a sexual offender, but you will never convince me that it is simply harmless reading material.

Women are raped and murdered for "dressing looking for trouble" around the World sir.

It's depressing. That innocent women / girls. Should be put through this type of trauma . I am ashamed to be a man , if this is a example male behavior . This was not a single individual but a group , a disgrace to all male gender . It sickens me to think that this disgraceful, disrespectful , disgusting display could be associated with male human beings.

      Shaun - 2012-01-03 21:25

The fact that you feel this way is a good sign sir. It shows that not "all Men" are like this and that there is hope. We just need to root out the sickos and beat some sense into them. Perhaps if they felt what their victims felt they might have an epipheny of some sorts and come to their senses. After that we as parents teach our children to respect each other. Boys must learn from an early age that Women are fragile creatures who need to be protected and pampered and not seen as a "sex toys" like most porn movies portray them. Again I am not blaming all of this on porn but rather suggesting that it could be having a negative effect on an already disfuntional youth sir.

The only thing I do not understand is the reference to the capitalist system by Castro, with the African\socialist system women are running around can you blame capitalism?

      MyTruth - 2012-01-03 21:27

While I think this is abhorrent and certainly refelcts the poor state of our nation interms of the common male reaction to a female, I must also question how did Castro even get to bring in 'Capitalist Society' as a comparison to this incident? He must be so totally out of his mind to try bring capitalism into this terrible incident. Thre again, perhaps the same offenders were informed that the women in question were capitalists and therefore were treated this way by the followers of NUMSA? So the truth be told, NUMSA certainly stands for treating women in a derogative manner, if they are well dressed? Any lastly, who actually interviewed Castro for this comment? He has no bearing or motive in this story so what was this journalists perspective on the matter? Time to get rid of these warmongering unionists and bring in unionists who actually care about their people and show it!

They seem to capitalism so much but they are capitalists themselves. What you just said Mr Castro Ngobese is referred to as "political nonsense" in communication. How do you associate this incident with capitalism? What is it that you don't have materialistically that shows that you are not a capitalist? Someone from transport fraternity or taxi industry should have issued a statement instead of him or is it because a car is dominantly made of metal? Taxi drivers are simply abusive and they do not only abuse girls in mini skirts. They abuse other road users and their customers respectively. I am not a tribalist but this is usually done by Zulus who tend to be very violent and aggressive in this industry. The answer to this is to formalise the hiring of taxi drivers by storing their particulars on intergrated data base so that those who are found guilty in their line of duty should suspended from the industry.

Sometimes we blacks have serious problems, each year in KwaZulu Natal there is a beautiful culture that we observe where viginity testing is done and our girls display their bodies almost naked and we acknowledge that as cultural accepted. We have again in Swaziland what is called reeds dance, girls breast out and almost naked display their bodies but we say nothing. Beside before the arrival of the whites in Africa we were wearing amabheshu, animal hides and walked almost naked but now we are foolishly seeing uncivilised empty minded taxi drivers streaping ladies who are wearing mini skirts. What a shame. As a black men we must look in the mirror and ask ourselves what we see. If we do not love ourselves who will love us?

  • chris.khanye - 2012-01-03 22:18

Some men at taxi ranks in their aimless stupor have declared themselves custodians of moron fiber. Cowards who hide behind mob rant to substitute what they lack in their social life - if they have any. Weaklings who as individuals are even afraid of their shadows - with their filthy hands between their legs cry themselves to sleep at nights. At some taxi ranks some worthless old men have become fashion critics an illusion. Some filthy old men with filthy thoughts and with their filthy hands grope their own children. Lustful old men who get a kick from groping a girl child! Fashion gurus at taxi ranks are just scum....scum of the earth! Bulls+*&t!

      Yar - 2012-01-04 22:24

@Chris "Custodians of moron fibre" - I think you have just coined a new phrase. I like it! Its' good.

  • mike.clery - 2012-01-03 22:38

Most of the comments here imply that it's the victims' fault because they "dressed provocatively". Miniskirts aren't illegal. What's next - that it's the victim's fault for being murdered because they "live in an upmarket neighbourhood" or because they "drive an expensive car", because their ostentatious lifestyle provokes potential armed robbers? Ridiculous!

      John - 2012-01-03 23:25

Couldn't agree more.... Men who are all for "women's rights"... As long as women dress in a manner "acceptable" to men....

      Shaun - 2012-01-04 04:56

Mike would you advise your daughter or wife to walk around a taxi rank alone in a short skirt?

      mike.clery - 2012-01-04 07:45

@Shaun - No. But using that as justification for blaming the victim can be carried through ad absurdum. Women must never go out at night? Never use your cell phone in public, rather switch it off and hide it away (people are murdered for their cell phones)? Where do you draw the line? South Africans seem desperate to justify living in a society where crime is so rampant that it renders political freedom meaningless.

  • Jason Morgan - 2012-01-03 22:57

This cancerous behaviour by the taxi drivers treating women as sex objects not human beings should be condemned. And the government should protect women by putting this hungry lions into the registry of sex offenders and if they repeat any sexual offences no option prison must be their next destination.

  • Nkosinathi - 2012-01-03 23:09

When I drive through certain neighbourhoods, my garmin warns me of the high risk of hijacking, some roads have signs to the effect that "do not stop for your own safety". In future I reroute. Everyone knows that Noord taxi rank has a high number of perverts. Do not go there in a mini skirt. I am not condoning the behaviour of the perverts all I am saying is after the trauma of being groped by a dozen dirty hands, these young ladies have suffered and all the indignant comments on the web will not take away the trauma. My advice is "DO NOT GO TO NOORD TAXI RANK IN A MINISKIRT!!" You will be traumatised, you will prove nothing new, we already know that Noord is full of perverts! Take care of yourself! Our "justice" system already lets murderers, necklacing and stoning vigilantes, thieving politicians etc go scot free. The inkabi who used to engage in gunfights at this rank also probably got away with it. So, when at Noord, take extra care for your own safety. Its a dangerous place!

      John - 2012-01-03 23:34

Or maybe it should just be policed... Or maybe rank officials held responsible... Or maybe the men caught on CCTV should be arrested and prosecuted.... Or maybe its time that the "men" who use the rank stand up and be counted.... Why the hell should a woman in a "free society" not be able to dress freely, as they please, move around freely, as they please. Unfortunately this rank is probably the only convenient rank for them to get to and from home. So lets not suggest that they shouldn't have been there or that they should allow a bunch of low-lives to dictate their so called "freedom'

      Nkosinathi - 2012-01-03 23:53

My point is "no matter how much we shout on the web, Noord is a dangerous taxi rank and its wise to take care when in a KNOWN dangerous place!" The police are doing their part but we still have a very high crime rate in SA. Would you have your sister, wife or girlfriend walk around Noord taxi rank in a miniskirt to try and prove the efficiency of our policing and justice system? If you have such a high affinity for risk taking, did you lock your gate and door tonight? Why seemingly encourage other people to stick their bum through the bars on a hyena cage just to prove how kind and humane hyenas might have grown?

      Shaun - 2012-01-04 04:56

John would you advise your daughter or wife to walk around a taxi rank alone in a short skirt?

      Shaun - 2012-01-04 05:00

Nkosinathi I could not agree more. It is sad that we have to live in fear but to say silly things like "Women have a right to wear this dress code in a taxi rank like this" is insane in its own right. Human rights aside you need to realise these are not safe areas and this kind of activity should be expected.

  • John - 2012-01-03 23:41

Mister NUMSA spokesperson.... How many of the low-lives at the taxi rank are capitalists?? Do you know something we don't?? Or are you using this tragic incident to make a political issue and statement?

  • afroduckk - 2012-01-03 23:44

Don't these cretins do enough damage already - by killing so many passengers with their erratic driving and now this , just shows how many brain cells these guys have.

  • Irene - 2012-01-04 00:23

What other type of behaviour would you expect from these silverbacks?

  • Michael - 2012-01-04 01:15

      Michael Koenane - 2012-01-04 05:06

Very true. It applies to this article.

  • stef.terblanche - 2012-01-04 02:27

Just shows what a long way we have to go before we can attain Madiba's dream, the one he was willing to die for. How can we tolerate the Zumas and Malemas exploiting the legacy of this great man for such crap?

      ArchAngel - 2012-01-04 23:38

@stef.terblance: Please remember to add the dream that mandela was willing to kill for, to shed innocent blood for. He personally signed off, from prison, authorization for attacks on innocent civilians. He is no saint so please keep your statements accurate.

      Elle-Black - 2012-01-05 15:25

@ Lucifer's Archangel and you? are you a saint?

  • Beetroot - 2012-01-04 06:07

At the end of the day, this group of citizens prove once again they have not evolved into any civilised means. As soon as you take away the big stick they resort to their instinctive behaviour of rape, murder and pilage. The taxi bosses should clean up their own backyard seeings the law and order are so ineffective. Welcome to South Africa! Land of ANC.

  • john.ncala - 2012-01-04 07:10

today I was at noord street taxi rank and seating in the front seat of a taxi with a lady wearing a mini skirt and nothing happend to her ,since the lst incident there the taxi drive's heard nation and stopped doing this and people who take taxis there they can back me up on this one but those hawkers there are ones who responsible for this one let us not blame the drives they know f they do this again that rank will be closed and I'm sure who watched the video can back me too

  • mike.reid6 - 2012-01-04 07:45

once again a bunch of uncivilised animals make the news. they would be the first to complain if somebody groped their mothers, sisters or daughters.

  • Hendrik - 2012-01-04 07:47

"....... borders on societal patriarchy and relegation of women into cheap sexual commodities as fostered and entrenched by [the] capitalist system" That seems pretty rich coming from a race (yes, I am pulling the race card, as he started it!) with a history of polygamy, of having the "luxury of choice between wifes - now tell me how the hell that came "entrenched in the capitalist system"? Societal patriarchy was the african way of which our esteemed prez taught us so much just recently, telling us that our christian values did nothing for them. This, ladies and gents, is just another glittering example of racial prejudice and racism out in the open media, and we are sitting back and accepting it. We whites end up being bashed in every single news item, whether we featured in it or not - I bet if a blue-lighter farted in parly, it would also be blamed on us? PATHETIC, nothing but pathetic.

      ArchAngel - 2012-01-04 23:40

WELL SAID HENDRIK!! From ShowerHead to his minime MalEnema, no respect as it is justified as BLACK CULTURE. Disgusting!

  • Perfume - 2012-01-04 08:23

Some people that have vicious dogs in their yard, will have a sign at the gate that says "BEWARE OF THE DOG", because of that sign, a person will never try and open the gate to enter the yard. Ladies "BEWARE OF THE NOORD STREET PERVERTS", if you know it is a dangerous area to be walking around in a miniskirt, why do so, why encourage the "dog" to bark or bite.

  • martin.vandermerwe - 2012-01-04 08:28

    Yip, that's Africa for you!!!

  • frangelico - 2012-01-04 10:15

@Lyndatjie,wearing a mini skirt covers more than the traditional African attire in the homelands, where nothing is left to the imagination. These men need to be let loose amongnst a prison full of females.

  • Silvana - 2012-01-04 10:38

The anomaly here is that a girl in a mini gets sexually abused by a gang of men, yet in some rural areas it acceptable for woman to walk around topless according to their custom. My heart goes out to those girls.

  • Willem - 2012-01-04 11:38

They call for human rights, but are they human enough? They are not civilized that we know. It appears that civilized laws are not sufficient to control the barbaric people in the country, and it seems to me as if there is a lot of barbaric behavior around. I still have a suspicion that humanism is the cause, as these people will do it with their own wife's and sisters, they are only interested in them selves and their pleasure how skew it may be.

  • ArchAngel - 2012-01-04 23:14

Well, the example was set by their (your) president, Jacob Regop ShowerHead himself. Until your government PROSECUTES AND IMPRISONS PERPETRATORS they are doing nothing but PROVIDING LIP SERVICE to the RIGHTS OF THE CITIZENS.

  • Sarah - 2012-01-04 23:45

Has any of you gone to that taxi rank? It is a country on it's own and I was not stunned at all when I heard that yet another incident happened there. Next time, they might go as far as rape women there(if it has not happened yet). Park station, where our pride and joy, the gautrain stops dayly, is in North street next to the same taxi rank where these grown men with perverted brains are. I think that police should make that area one of their bases and put up an office there. There are to many foreign nationals there too and to commit a crime and run away is easy because one can board a taxi to any destination within South Africa from that taxi rank,so imagine the caos if criminals really starts to act up there.

  • kandy.kay.35 - 2012-09-21 14:21

they are not real men with integrity because in their tradition short skirts are worn without shirts.....
