Join e-toll marches, ANCYL urges youth

2012-11-28 14:18

Johannesburg - The youth should support the two planned marches to protest against e-tolling of Gauteng's freeways, the ANC Youth League said on Wednesday.

"Young people must swell the ranks of the downtrodden who will on Friday participate in... marches to several government departments involved in the e-tolling disgrace," spokesperson Khusela Sangoni-Khawe said in a statement.

The league supported the marches organised by Cosatu to be held in Tshwane and Johannesburg.

"We have no doubt that this dreaded system will only exacerbate the social problems that the country is already faced with."

The ANCYL considered the public hearings into the tolls to be a "farce". "That it is government's responsibility to pay for the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project is undisputed," Sangoni-Khawe said.

Government collected billions of rand in revenue for projects such as this and so it was unreasonable that citizens, who were already burdened with rising living costs, should be expected to fund it, the spokesperson said.

On 6 December the youth league would participate in another protest, which aimed to bring freeways around Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane to a standstill.

"The mother of all battles is imminent," Sangoni-Khawe said.

Now this is some thing that the ANCYL should be doing any youth league for that matter.

They should rather be in school or university/college than marching down a street.

  • azariel.malesela - 2012-11-28 15:13

I will support the march and I will be there not as youth but as unhappy citizen who is directly affected by these daylight robberies committed by the so called freedom fighters(anc). What I witness every day is the stealing from the poor by the ruling party. I can assure u that anc top brass are the main beneficiaries as their shareholding in this e-tolls are hidden through family trusts. They must know that we are very much aware of their tricks and the truth will come out soon. All of them including the so called unionists have got Trusts, that's where their looted wealth are hidden. Juju learn from their seniors about stealing and hiding stolen properties in the trust. Their properties, shares in companies are held by the trusts of which are the beneficiaries. I think what we have seen happening in the Arab countries is not far from happening here. If they don't stop looting the state, they must know that they are directly inviting Arab spring into our beloved country. As Vavi always say, We are sitting on a time-bomb, it can explode anytime. mark my words.

This is the first time I've ever heard the ANCYL say something intelligent!!! Well done its about time you get involved in things that matter...

  • gary.desousa.5 - 2012-11-28 15:20

We can have the "mother" of all street parties

  • jurgens.bencesnr - 2012-11-28 15:20

E-toll will reserve the new roads for the rich and the poor guys will have to go on the old congested undriveable roads! Is this a way of the rich politicians to get the poor off their roads?

  • azariel.malesela - 2012-11-28 15:23

Where are community organization such as sanco, is sanco a political party or civic organization. I think civic organization are responsible to organize such gathering as we all know that Cosatu and Ancyl doesnt have interest at heart to better the lives of the poor. They are anc alliance meaningis the same as government marching or toy-toying against itself, therefore you cannot trust their intentions. We need such protest to be led by people with genuine intentions, not sanco, anyl, sacp and cosatu. I mean all of them are in the government stealing from the poor, those who are not yet in the government are fighting to be there not for the needs of the poor.

No need to march and trash the place. Just do not register!!!

      phaldiemeyer - 2012-11-28 17:08

true Simon, it is a kind of peaceful protest...hit them where it hurts - their bank balances.

  • JohnDough - 2012-11-28 15:33

I was going to protest but now that the "nappy brigade" is going along I have changed my mind. They simply have no idea on how to behave so one can only expect trouble from them.

      phaldiemeyer - 2012-11-28 17:16

unfortunately that's the truth, it will probably end up in a "free for all looting" - the only way is don't register. Sadly one still sees long queues at Sanral offices. Is it not a better idea to occupy the Sanral register offices to prevent people from registering, that the ancyl can easily do and I wouldn't give a hoot if they trash those places...yes, yes a bit of hypocrisy but whatever gets the job done!!

  • ssheshani - 2012-11-28 15:49

ANCYL is again misleading the youth of SA, why the youth must join the march yet we're unemployed? We need jobs, we're sick of being used just bcs ppl want to push their political agendas. We hv high unemployment rate, youth pregnancy, alcohol

  • phaldiemeyer - 2012-11-28 16:24

Eish!!! I's a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend...be careful of ancyl, they're the reason why we are in this mess and a good example that the youth isn't all-knowing because they are empiricists and reactionists. We need critical thinkers that are able to identify the causal mechanisms for our political woes and chart a new path to Mandela's version of freedom and equality for South Africans citizens!!

  • gski700902 - 2012-11-28 16:30

This has to be the first time that I can honestly say I have found ANYTHING that the ANCYL is doing or saying to be of merit.

  • nathan.g.moss - 2012-11-28 16:42

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, ‘viva ANCYL viva’

  • phaldiemeyer - 2012-11-28 17:05

A cautionary tale...this is exactly how Hitler came to power, he told the Germans what they wanted to hear!! After their country was being suffocated by the Jews and they followed him blindly, that being said I suppose is the right tool for this job(e-toll scrapping)...just don't start singing the ancyl's praises yet!!
