Johannesburg - Award-winning motoring journalist Melinda Ferguson has crashed a rare R3.2m Ferrari California while test-driving the vehicle.

According to the Sunday Times, the incident happened in Johannesburg last week when Ferguson collided with a Mitsubishi Pajero.

The convertible GT, which packs 338kW of V8 power is currently at a Viglietti panel shop in Johannesburg waiting to be assessed.

Ferguson is the author of best-selling memoir Smacked, which was about her battle with drug addiction, and The Kelly Khumalo Story. She is also features and motoring editor at True Love magazine and has the popular Girl Torque blog.

British motoring journalist faces giant bill

Ferguson is not the first motoring journalist to have a mishap while driving a sports car in the line of duty.

Earlier this year British motoring journalist Mark Hales was hit with a huge bill for damages when a High Court judged that he was responsible after he blew up the engine of a £1.3 million Porsche he had borrowed from a former Formula One driver.
According to MailOnline, David Piper had lent the powerful car to Hales for a magazine article, but the journalist accidentally caused major damage to it.

The writer has complained that the £100 000 in damages and costs is too high and he will not be able to pay it.
