Pretoria - Former president Nelson Mandela's step-daughter Jozina Machel arrived at the Pretoria hospital on Friday where he is being treated for a recurring lung infection.

She entered the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital premises by 13:20, driving a black Mercedes Benz.

The daughter of Mozambique's first president Samora Machel and Mandela's wife Graça, was the first family member seen at the hospital on Friday.

Graça was believed to have left the hospital earlier on Friday morning after spending the night there.

On Thursday, Graça, Mandela's ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and his daughters, South Africa's ambassador to Argentina, Zenani Mandela and Zindzi arrived at the hospital at different times.

Graça left in the morning, Madikizela-Mandela left with daughter Zindzi in the afternoon, and Zenani left early in the evening.

Mandela, 94, was hospitalised in the early hours of 8 June with a recurring lung infection.

The presidency said he was in a "serious but stable" condition.

Several close relatives of Madiba have visited him daily.

Well-wishers have adorned the hospital's perimeter wall with an assortment of get-well-soon cards, bouquets of flowers, balloons, sculptures, and flags.

One handmade card, from Mamboleo Stephane Mandela, read: "I'm waiting for you at my 18th birthday party. Get well soon".

The elderly statesman is spending his 14th day in the hospital.
