Johannesburg - Musician Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye, convicted of murder, will appeal the decision of a Soweto court that remanded him in custody until sentencing, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Monday.

"Maarohanye appealed the decision made by Magistrate Brian Nemavhidi in the Protea Magistrate's Court that he be remanded in custody until he is sentenced on 30 November, said spokesperson Phindi Louw.

The appeal will be heard by the South Gauteng High Court on Wednesday.

Louw said she could not provide more details as the NPA only received a notice about the appeal and the date.

Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala were found guilty on 16 October on four counts of murder and two of attempted murder.

Delivering judgement, Nemavhidi said: "The State managed to prove beyond reasonable doubt... that the accused are guilty on four counts of murder... [and] two counts of attempted murder."

He also convicted them of racing on a public road and driving while under the influence of drugs.

"The death of the youngsters occurred as a result of driving the two vehicles and as such the accused are convicted of driving their vehicles while under the influence of drugs."

Nemavhidi said that bail for both Tshababala and Maarohanye ended at the time the court announced its finding.

Louw said Tshabalala would not appeal the court's decision.

"We haven't received any notice that he [Tshabalala] will be appealing," she said.

Sentencing will take place on 30 November.

He needs to face it, he committed a criminal activity. These appeals never do any good to South Africa, if appeals are just granted such guys like him will keep on doing similar crimes knowing exactly that they will appeal and just get away with crimes. At the end where do we go as South Africa?

Hey Jub Jub, you are a murderer, a CONVICTED murderer. And murderers belong in jail. You get no sympathy from anyone.

@ buyie... if these kids were one of your own would you say what you have just said.. wake up.. he made a mess and now he must pay for it.. celeb or not.. people are getting away with so many things in this country it's about time the justice dept does their work.. on that note.. if this was a normal accident without the DRUGS ALCOHOL and the kids didn't see the car or something to that effect maybe maybe but maybe there could be a diff sentence.. but he is there now he must suffer...

People who take drugs and drink do it for a reason - to alter their consciousness and to treat an addiction.murders committed during robberies on farmers may not have been the oroginal intention but if caught and proved murder sentence is passed - no bail. Being a sort of celebrity does not make you ant better than a common criminal who kills a family for revenge, by mistake whatever. No sympathy for either of these two. They at least will have roof over their head medical treatment etc while the lives of young people who might have become doctors or lawyers or good citizens were wiped out by a totally irresponsible arrogant out of his skull piece of scum who thinks he is above the law.

Jub Jub, be afraid. You must really be afraid because some big daddies in the prison are itching to share a bed with you.
