Jub Jub murder trial continues

Johannesburg - The trial of hip hop artist Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala was set to continue in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

They were allegedly drag-racing when one of their Mini Coopers ploughed into a group of people in Protea North, Soweto, on March 8, 2010, killing four schoolchildren and injuring two.

On Tuesday, defence lawyer Ike Motloung cast doubt on the credibility of accident reconstruction expert Renier Balt during cross examination.

He said Balt had not interviewed all the witnesses.

"I had sufficient information to form an opinion on what caused the accident," Balt said.

Balt told the court that the blue Mini Cooper was the one that struck the group after overturning.

He later retracted this statement, saying he had made a mistake in concluding that the blue car struck the children.

WHY is an obvious case of drunken driving and killing of innocent persons taking forever to resolve, just shows what mega-money and connections can buy, even life threatening illneses, even if found guilty it will go to the next and the next court for ever.

I'm sick of this case if it was an ordinary citizen in Jub Jub's shoes; the person would have been convicted right on the scene, and probably make one court appearance and kiss their freedom goodbye. I have a feeling Jub Jub will probably get 10 years max, of that 10 years he will only serve 4, inevitable being released on the merits of "good behaviour"...Our justice system is biased.

Time to pay the piper - fess up and take your punishment instead of wasting everyone's time and energy!

The way this idiot comes to court dressed to the nines smacks disrespect to the parents who lost their kids forever. He shows no fabric of remorse whatsoever. Re-construction what reconstruction do you need in this event that happened in front of a dozen witnesses, in broad daylight. . . .T.I.A

This goes to show once again that money rules over justice and everything else in this country.

Jub will not be jailed as it is clear he will get out on a technicality. If i were a family member of the deceased i would be glad if they let him out so i can take proper revenge.

political grand-standing has never won cases in courts of law. how many government officials, celebrities and ordinary citizens have been jailed for gross traffic violations? they always shout from the pulpit how such idiots should be charged with murder/attempted murder to placate us the masses. the bottom line is none of these people ever get convicted. they just get fined and given back their licences so they continue mowing down other people with their cars.

Jub Jub, save some money, confess, accept responsibility and make ready for 20 years in jail.
