Luresha Govender's murder case continues in the Randburg Magistrate's Court where 39-year-old handyman Anthony Strauss stands accused of strangling Govender with an electrical cable. WATCH

Johannesburg - The family of the Luresha Govender, who was strangled to death allegedly by the man hired to fit her kitchen cupboards, will have to wait till October 8 to find out her alleged killer's fate.

That is the date Judge Solly Sithole will hand down judgment upon Anthony Strauss, the man accused of killing Govender at her Paulshof, Johannesburg, house on December 30 last year.

The matter, in the High Court sitting at the Randburg Magistrate's Court, lasted barely two minutes as Sithole told the court room that judgment was not ready.

A large number of Govender's family and friends were present in court, the majority wearing black T-shirts with the words #JusticeForLuresha printed on them.

Strauss had previously testified that he strangled Govender in a fit of rage after the pair had a disagreement.

He had tied an electrical cord around her neck and choked her, but insisted he had never meant to take her life

Drug addict

On September 4, under cross-examination from prosecutor Nerisha Naidoo, Stauss admitted to being a drug addict and told the court he had used drugs on several occasions on the day he killed Govender.

Stauss's cellphone records were brought as part of evidence, and it was revealed that he had spent the day making phone calls to drug dealers, as well as his girlfriend Lilla Shaw.

Shaw had introduced Govender to Stauss and recommended him for the job.

It was understood that Strauss had strangled and killed Govender, then covered her with a duvet.

He allegedly spent several hours at her home after killing her and left in her sports car the next morning.

Govender's body was later discovered at her home by her brother.
