Jumper cables murder - suspects appear

2012-09-05 22:28

Johannesburg - A farmer and his son accused of electrocuting a worker and almost killing another in Piet Plessis appeared in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, North West police said.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the men, aged 69 and 33, would appear again on Thursday.

Beeld newspaper named them as Mathys, 69, and Danie Cloete, 34.

They face charges of murder, attempted murder, assault, and pointing a firearm.

The two apparently called two farm workers to a store room, accusing them of stealing two tyres and 25 litres of diesel.

When the workers denied the theft, they were allegedly tied up with chains, assaulted and shocked with jumper cables.

One of the workers died one the scene, and the other was injured.

Hope these guys get whats comming to them. They are part of the problem not the solution :( Torture is unacceptable. If workers break the law get the cops for peat sakes or fire them.

12 v nor 24 v jumpers will kill you, this sounds like "blame it on the bunny" story

      marc.klynhans - 2012-09-06 11:07

If the jumpers penetrated the skin, it could have been very uncomfortable indeed! They could have hooked the jumpers to mains too. Either way, I'm not sure if the guy died from electrocution...

Glen - It is time that you wake up and smell the coffee! It seems that you don't realy read much of the news. Farmers get killed on a daily basis for no vallid reason. In fact these people brake in, kill the farmer then rape the wife of the farmer and then steal everything they can. I know the farmer and the son very, very well and I can assure you that it WAS NOT their intension to get them killed but to teach them a lesson. The otopsie that was taken on the victim says that he died of epelepsie. This farmer also owned a local shop/bottle store a while back and sold it because of people breaking in and stealing on a monthly basis. At some stage a person do get tired of loosing all the time. I don't have to explain to you how bad the SAP's response in even cities are so you can imagine how it is in the farm world. Keep your stupid comments for yourself. You probably sit in a airconditioned office and do nothing. You also probably live in a maximum security estate and obviously don't know what is happening around you. WAKE UP!!!!!!

@farmfreund how much current does a 12v or 24v battery give?how well is the insulation of the persons body?

      chaplinncharlie - 2012-09-06 02:50

if i'm not mistaken it's not the Volts that kills you but Amps...

      erich.goosen - 2012-09-06 08:11

There was once a movie called 'White men can't jump'!

      JohanCduToit - 2012-09-06 08:49

The resistance of the human body is too high for significant current to flow at 12V. It is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to get electrocuted from voltages that low. Up to about 50V is perfectly safe.

      marc.klynhans - 2012-09-06 11:13

If you put the current into the blood stream, you can get a few milliamps, but 12V or 24V is not dangerous. Why if jumpers were used are these assumed to be car jumpers? And why is the assumed voltage source a car battery? You can connect any type of jumpers to mains too. There could have been an energizer in the store room for an electric fence that they hooked up to the guys with jumpers.

Savages. I hope someone also puts the jumper cables on their nuts once they walk out on bail

What the hell is wrong with some people. If you have a problem, call the cops. At the end of the day, a murderer is worse than a thief. Lock them all up !!

  • Louise Whittingstall Barnard - 2012-09-06 07:38

The murder of any person is sad and wrong for sure BUT living in South Africa I read of much more brutal and violent murders everyday!!!! People in South Africa get HACKED to death for heavens sake! All the killing in this country should stop!!!

  • Louise Whittingstall Barnard - 2012-09-06 07:42

Ok so Jump leads was supposedly used and someone died? Would it have been more acceptable if he died by being hacked with a knife or shot in the head, like so many other South Africans do everyday in this country?

Advice on interrogating without causing harm! Take a large brown house snake make it angry and place it in a pillow case tie it around the suspects head and inform him he will die within 1 hour of being bitten unless he recieves medical attention if no confession is forthcoming after a few bites you may presume the suspect to be innocent. This system works very well...

  • twist.cas - 2012-09-06 11:30

Things like this instigate farm killings. This guys were never caught with items in their possession, but they get electrocuted and one killed instead of calling police. Tomorrow the survivor will come after u and u family, you bloody garbage!

  • charnelle.bester - 2012-09-09 20:45

Tensions are rife in this country and my prediction is that it is only going to get worst..

  • bobo.jane.1 - 2012-09-09 21:27

Why everyone silent so suddenly ? - All this turned out to be a fabricated story ! The truth will come out...But this yet again proves to be a msm campaighn against a certain minority group in this country to instigate hate...Those peoploe are innocent until proven guilty, why no reports on the post mortem findings ? Why Why Why N24 ?
