Johannesburg - Two men were arrested in Hlobane, near Vryheid, when 300kg of dagga was found in their car on Tuesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Police were doing routine crime prevention patrols when they stopped a Nissan bakkie with two men inside at 01:30, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

In a search of the car, police found eight bags of dagga with a street value of R300 000.

The men were arrested for dealing in dagga.

While questioning the two, aged 28 and 31, police intercepted a call from a prospective buyer.

"When he heard that the two suspects were under police arrest, he offered a bribe and further negotiated for the release of the two arrested suspects," said Zwane.

The police played along with the plan and reported the offer to their seniors who authorised a trap.

The 50-year-old man was arrested for bribery when he arrived at the scene and offered R4 000 to secure the men's release.

The three men would appear in Hlobane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
