Durban - A six-year-old boy found floating in a dam in Bergville was rescued in a combined effort between paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and the local community on Friday.

EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said the child had been floating face down and was pulled from the water by community members of rural Rookdale near Bergville.

They performed CPR on the child and called EMS.

McKenzie said when paramedics arrived on scene and took over the child had already regained consciousness. “The child’s condition stabilised after continued treatment from the paramedics,” said McKenzie.

The boy was taken to hospital for further treatment.
