Durban - Three pupils were injured when gale-force winds tore the roof off a primary school in central KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics had rushed to the Hlwemini Primary School in Swayimane near Wartburg.

"Paramedics were called to a nearby clinic where three children, aged between 7 and 10, were injured after the roof of their classroom blew off in heavy winds. Debris from the roof apparently fell onto the children," he said.

The pupils were treated by paramedics and left in the care of nurses at the local clinic.

The paramedics then went back to the school to make sure that no further injuries were sustained and to ensure that the scene was safe, said Meiring.
