Durban - A taxi operator has been shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Isipingo south of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal authorities said on Thursday.

Transport department spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said Bhekayena Mnguni was shot on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said three armed men carried out the attack at a taxi rank in Alexandra Road.

Provincial Safety MEC Willies Mchunu condemned the killing.

Mchunu said he was concerned about the on-going tensions within the Folweni Taxi Association.

Five people had been killed in recent months within the association.

"It is unacceptable that people are resorting to violence instead of resolving their disputes amicably."

Unacceptable huh? Well, as government, it seems you have been accepting the behaviour of this industry for a very long time. Do something about it maybe? Your supporters do not respect you, they do as they please. Riot, kill, intimidate, etc etc...

Nobody cares about the taxi industry. The government wait for people to be killed then they come running to comment on media. Folweni line is the most dangerous line. And nobody is doing a thing. May the soul of Mr Mnguni rest in peace.
