KZN wife killer seeks bail

2012-10-23 18:31

Johannesburg - A Durban panelbeater convicted of killing his wife was refused bail by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.

Rajiv Sewnarain had asked for bail pending his appeal against the guilty verdict handed down against him in December 2010.

He admitted guilt before his conviction, but later said he wanted to change his plea.

Sewnarain told the court on Tuesday he needed to be granted bail so he could raise money for his legal fees.

High court Judge Kevin Swain denied his request and said that for bail to be granted following a conviction, there had be a reasonable chance of success on appeal.
