Durban - A joint police operation on Wednesday has led to the arrest of a 38-year-old woman who was allegedly in possession of five unlicenced rifles.

Brighton Beach Crime Intelligence, PSS K9 and Umhlali K9 Units conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Kranskop area.

They were following up on information about illegal firearms, provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said.

"Police identified a suspected house and it was searched. Five unlicenced firearms... two 303 rifles, an AK47 rifle, a Mauser rifle and a shotgun were found inside the house.

"A woman who could not produce a license for the firearms was arrested and charged for possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition.

"The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country," he said.
