Kagiso man held for assault

2013-04-03 19:38

Johannesburg - A man has been arrested in Kagiso for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and attempting to undress her in a tavern, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old man was arrested around 2pm on Tuesday after his 41-year-old partner laid a complaint against him, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

On March 20, the woman was at a tavern when the man arrived around 22:00.

"He wanted them to go and sleep, but when she refused, the suspect struck her with an empty beer bottle on the head. He further punched her in the face.

As the complainant was still bleeding, the suspect attempted to undress her in front of patrons."

The woman's brother arrived and took her home. The man went into hiding after the attack, but on Tuesday night police found him in his home.

The man would appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Thursday to face a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
