Kidnapped girl 'shaken' by ordeal

2012-12-06 13:11

Pretoria - The 7-year-old girl kidnapped at Waterkloof Primary School in Pretoria and found at a guesthouse in Mpumalanga is unharmed but "very shook up by the traumatic ordeal", Gauteng police say.

Warrant Officer Annabel Middleton said Pura Pahlo was found with her biological father Ray Pahlo, 42, at a guesthouse in Lydenburg.

"Mr Pahlo was accompanied by a female in her early thirties, speaking with an American accent. Both Pahlo and the female were arrested and detained at Lydenburg."

The girl was kidnapped on Wednesday, when her foster mother was dropping her off.

The woman was approached by four men, claiming to be police officers, who forced her from her car and tried to bind her hands with cable ties.

The girl's father emerged, allegedly snatched the girl, and sped off.

The four, aged between 21 and 45, were arrested and were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday, on charges of kidnapping and impersonating police officers.

Middleton said Pahlo and the woman were being brought back to Pretoria and were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday.

A woman this time is innocent because both of them do not have the custody. The child was given to foster parents after both were found to be unfit parents because they were fighting every day, hour, minute and second. So the social workers took the child in her best interest.

    Where is her mother?

      siphom.mnguni - 2012-12-06 14:40

Both the mother and the father were declared unfit parents so the child was given to foster parents.

How did they find her? Did they get a tip from the guesthouse staff?

      siphom.mnguni - 2012-12-06 14:42

According to The Star newspaper, yes, they got a tip from the guesthouse.

The SAP had absolutely nothing to do with getting the child back! When instructed by the person on alert to the alleged suspects vehicle and whereabouts, the Lydenburg police wasnt even aware of such case......they had to be informed by the public. Useless.......
