Kimberley - The Northern Cape mother accused of killing her five children was still in police custody and would appear in court again next week, according to a report on Friday.

Venolia Siwa, 35, appeared in the Pampierstad Magistrate's Court on Thursday but did not apply for bail, The Star newspaper reported.

She has applied for legal aid and will appear in court again on Monday when she was expected to enter a plea.

Siwa was arrested on Tuesday after the bodies of the five children, aged between 2 and 13, were found at their home in Lower Majeakgoro Village, in Pampierstad.

State prosecutor Lesego Diale told the court the killings were believed to have been premeditated and "well thought out".

Police spokesperson Captain Cherelle Ehlers earlier said it appeared the children had been drowned but post-mortems still needed to be concluded.

Hope she rots there. It takes an evil woman to kill her own children.

      Theresa - 2011-10-21 11:22

This women is way beyond evil.Killing one child is bad,but killing five is demented!!!

It will be interesting to know if the women had psychosis or if she was just a plain murderer.

I think they need to find who helped her, because she surely couldnt have managed that alone!

@brian i like your thinking, sanity finally prevails. who in his/her right mind would murder her children? maybe theresa would seeing that she is already exhibiting symptoms of psychosis herself. a bells for you.

      Theresa - 2011-10-21 12:03

@Jackie,I think the 'insane'plea is used too often. It's an easy cop-out for murderers.

      Bryan - 2011-10-21 12:19

@Theresa, Yeah I agree. The "insane" plea is an obvious defense. I suppose, I just find it terrifying how human beings without psychiatric problems can be driven to commit such terrible acts. I just.... Phew Lost for words on this one...

      Trudy - 2011-10-21 12:25

@ Jackie. True. We do not know her circumstances, in fact we know nothing about her or the case. She might not even have done it. @ Jackie. Judge not.......

    bring the DEATH PENALTY back

  • Jackie - 2011-10-21 12:22

@theresa, i'd be supporting you if my response to you was not based personal experiences. i have lived with bipolar sufferer and i will tell you this. the mind really does crazy things. people will do the most insensitive things and actually believe they are right just because of a chemical imbalance. before then i used to think that people were just plain evil. once they start taking treatment they become humane again, now how do we explain that?

      Theresa - 2011-10-21 12:41

I see where you're coming from, but I can,for the life of me,not understand how someone can do that to her own kids.It goes beyond some or other disorder. But that's only my opinion..

  • Nkateko07 - 2011-10-21 12:23
