Johannesburg - A woman who was caught allegedly smuggling a phone to convicted Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir will appear in court on Tuesday morning on charges of defeating the ends of justice and interfering with a police investigation.

National police spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said the 45-year-old estate agent and mother of three would appear in the Cullinan Magistrate's Court.

He said the woman was arrested when an iPhone hidden in the sole of a shoe was discovered when it rang at the Zonderwater Prison.

Makgale said the woman was visiting Krecjir to discuss the sale of one of Krecjir's Bedfordview properties.

"She said she was bringing documents for Krecjir to sign so that his property would go on the market. Upon the discovery of the iPhone, correctional personnel answered... the caller identified himself as Dennis, whom we know as Krejcir's son."

Magkale said the woman had been in contact with the Krecjir family.

"Kreicjir is determined to escape jail and to do that, he needs a phone and we are aware of this. We are keeping close tabs on him and his visits... Unfortunately for him, we are always one step ahead," said Makgale.

The Department of Correctional Services had previously foiled what it said was an elaborate escape plan by Krejcir.

Amongst the items allegedly found in Krejcir's cell during that incident were a pistol, ammunition, a knife, an item that looked like a Taser, a pepper spray gun, steel blades, 10 cellphones, a memory stick, and a diary which contained the names of witnesses and investigators in his cases.

Last month, the first conviction against Krejcir was obtained when he was found guilty of attempted murder, kidnapping and dealing in drugs, related to the kidnapping and torture of Bheki Lukhele, whose brother, Doctor, had allegedly disappeared with 25kg of tik.
