Kruger Park restaurant staff on strike

2012-10-15 16:05

Johannesburg - The staff responsible for the management of restaurants in the Kruger National Park (KNP) have embarked on a strike, a spokesperson said on Monday.

"All the camps are affected except Mopani and Punda Maria rest camps in the northern part of the park," said William Mabasa, in a statement.

The staff belong to the Compass Group.

"... We are in discussion with Compass Group management and we have been assured that contingency plans are in place and currently temporary staff have been hired to assist with the operations until the end of the strike."

Their demands were unclear and Mabasa could not immediately be reached to clarify.

Can they let the poachers know too please?

      susanna.smit.7 - 2012-10-15 17:03

T'is the season to be striking, fa la la la laaa!

      George - 2012-10-15 19:49

      Will anyone notice?

  • desertratbkf - 2012-10-15 16:22

Chase them off the camps and let nature take its course!

      vark.nek.90 - 2012-10-15 18:30

Simba can have a lion's share.

  • kala.bafazi - 2012-10-15 16:24

As long as they do thier toyi-toying in the bush then I say let them dance.

      johny.stront - 2012-10-15 16:28

Hopefully they come across some lions!

      kala.bafazi - 2012-10-15 16:30

      And several other deadly beasties.

      siphom.mnguni - 2012-10-15 18:26

Hopefully they won't get devoured by the predators.

  • malcolm.stevens.129 - 2012-10-15 16:32

No "poached" eggs in the Kruger for a while then....

  • stirrer.stirrer - 2012-10-15 16:39

What do they do when they strike? When they are not on strike, they don't actually do anything, so I suppose when they strike they work...

  • - 2012-10-15 16:47

    also want 12500 p/m??

  • amanda.matthews.14811 - 2012-10-15 16:48

Methinks there is more to these strikes than meets the eye. Who is really behind all this? It has to have been politically engineered. Managaung is around the corner and someone or some people want to make the Country ungovernable. Any guesses anyone???

  • Bazzpete - 2012-10-15 16:51

The overnight accommodation in the Park is fantastic but to the Compass Group - your staff are arrogant, impolite and begrudgingly leave their converations with other staff members! Your food - over priced, barely edible and appears slapped together by one of the park's primate residents. Ordered 2 bacon and egg toasted sandwiches at Lower Sabie and eventually got them 45 minutes later. Excuse was - oil for chips wasn't hot!! Two questions: who the hell wants chips with a toasted bacon and egg sandwich at 7.30am and, if the teenager who drew up the menu insists on chips, why wasn't the oil heating from 7.00am when the restuarant opened? Will never eat at any park restaurant again!!

      kobus.vandervyver - 2012-10-15 17:06

Could not agree more. The quality of the food and service at these restaurants across the park are simply appalling. Really wont bother me if the don't go back to work. It's not as if anyone will miss them....

      desertratbkf - 2012-10-15 17:09

I agree! They dont deserve those jobs! Fire them or as I said open the camps' gate and set them walking. Let nature take its course! ROOOOOAAAAAARRR!!!

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-10-15 17:34

Well you know to do, get rid of them and hire people who want to work. There are a lot of people who would love to work in the Kruger Park and I dont think they are fussy about the job either.

  • Erna - 2012-10-15 17:55

Must be very few people working in SA. Strange in a country with such a high unemloyment rate. While I don't condone the exploitation of workers, these strikes are now rediculous.

  • lskosana3 - 2012-10-15 18:50

Haibo! Everyone wants to strike now?? The country's gonna come to a stand still

  • elaine.p.leitao - 2012-10-15 19:01

No-one will notice the the best of times they're on a go-slow anyway.

  • Kovsie1980 - 2012-10-15 19:07

Please keep them on strike !!! I have just returned from a lovely holiday in the KNP and the only poor part in the KNP is the restaurant service. Fire the lazy workers and employ people who are happy to have a job.

  • jomar.delange - 2012-10-15 19:15

No great loss! Ever eaten at one of those places? When in KNP I braai 3 meals a day!

  • jayjay.mlungu - 2012-10-15 19:22

Dress them as Hippo's and drop them off for the poachers

      irene.buthelezi.1 - 2012-10-15 19:30

No need to dress them. Walking naked will do.

  • irene.buthelezi.1 - 2012-10-15 19:29

OMG! More ignorant, incompetent, unemployable fools thinking they're special.

  • patricia.dewet.92 - 2012-10-15 20:19

Wonderful, their were terrible, they were rude. Hopefully some one will teach them to cook.

  • paul.bester1 - 2012-10-16 09:08

Who cares, the Kruger Park is so expensive that most South Africans can't enjoy the park. They get what they deserve.
