Durban - KwaZulu-Natal has the highest number of children without both parents, the Witness reported on Monday.

According to the 2009/2010 annual survey for ordinary schools (ASS) KwaZulu-Natal had 187 225 double orphans (children without both parents) followed by the Eastern Cape with 92 973.

Statistics showed there were 481 739 double orphans in South Africa, over a million pupils without fathers and 591 865 without mothers.

Provincial spokesperson for the SA Social Security Agency, Vusimuzi Mahaye, confirmed that KwaZulu-Natal had the highest number of orphans.

Mahaye said foster care grants were one form of assistance offered to orphans.

KwaZulu-Natal education department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said there were programmes to assist orphans and vulnerable children, such as nutrition programmes and no-fee schools.

Have straight people not heard of a condom? Maybe try having less kids, breeding should be a privilege and not a right.

This has everything to do with the black man's lack of responsibility and social maturity - absolutely nothing to do with sexual preference you moron!

They have their (Dept of Social Development) figures totally messed up. There are 1 mil. paternal orphans,2 mil. maternal, 1,8 mil. double, 2,4 mil.abused, abandoned and molested and an estimated 2 mil. who are not in the system. These numbers are increasing by 25,000 per month. Frightening and I wonder why they would distort the figures? A time bomb indeed.

What can we say about this situation ? Migrant workers who abandon their kids? Aids finally doing the damage the parents were warned of since the early 80's? Perhaps this is a cultural issue , zulu woman are traded for cattle , just objects(their bodys) to be traded at their mens wims. Xhosa's accepting the kidnapping and rape to their "new husbands",once again, just an object to their mens desires ? Don't bash me as a racist or something here, rather debate the problem.
