That's it for today's live update. We'll be back tomorrow to keep you informed. Cheers!

06 Nov 15:53
Court will resume tomorrow morning.

06 Nov 15:53
Court adjourns.

06 Nov 15:53
FvZ asks if they discussed means of payment. MM says it wasn't discussed.

06 Nov 15:52

FvZ moves onto payment matters. He asks MM to tell him about the R5000 he wanted.

MM says: When I heard amount, I said I also wanted cut.

06 Nov 15:51

FvZ: ZT didn't talk to MQ from the hotel with you that day, correct?

MM: Correct.

FvZ: At that time you didn't know he'd do it, correct? You still thought you'd discuss it?

MM: I didn't know then.

06 Nov 15:49

MM asks if FvZ is referring to the Friday. FvZ says yes.

MM says no arrangement was made. Says it was just mentioned that they should meet up.

06 Nov 15:48

FvZ: Was an arrangement made that you three would meet up?

MM: Yes.

FvZ: Tell us about it

06 Nov 15:45

FvZ asks if there was any arrangement for ZT to call MQ that day.

MM: Arrangement was that we would meet.

06 Nov 15:36
MM: I didn't know at the time who was to be killed; just someone.

06 Nov 15:35
MM: I said to MQ that ZT was looking for a hitman.

06 Nov 15:33
MM: The footage reminded me which is not to say I didn't know what happened.

06 Nov 15:31

FvZ: Is the truth not that you'd seen CCtv footage of what took place at the hotel that afternoon?

MM: That's not true. I was not truthful in my involvement but I know what happened.

06 Nov 15:30
FvZ is ever the gentleman. Always greets, is courteous even to State witnesses.

06 Nov 15:28
SR concludes. Francois van Zyle to cross-examine.

06 Nov 15:27

SR: Did you receive any payment?

MM says he didn't.

06 Nov 15:23

MM: I spoke to ZT on 17 November 2010.

SR: Why do you remember that date?

MM: We got tickets to a game between SA and USA.

06 Nov 15:17
MM: MQ told me the money was short R5000. MQ looked angry. I also wanted my share of the cash but MQ looked angry and I didn't feel I could say that to him.

06 Nov 15:14
MM says he went home after his shift. Says he spent Sunday relaxing. He tried to phone ZT but couldn't get hold of him. His phone was off. Says MQ phoned him on the Sunday and was at his house after 10am.

06 Nov 15:13
According to journalist Lauren Hess, journalists are getting shifty in court. "Testimony isn't exactly riveting."

06 Nov 15:11
MM: I didn't know where exactly in Khayalitsha she's be killed.

06 Nov 15:10
MM: ZT's phone was off because he was with the couple. I don't know the exact place of the hit but knew it would be in Gugulethu. I asked how they were going to do it. They said they were going to take the car as it entered Gugulethu and then take it to Khayalitsha. Then Zola would be let out.

06 Nov 15:04
Observation: There are far fewer journalists in court today.

06 Nov 15:03
MM: We weren't thinking about how precious the person's life was because in our language it is said that we can't attach price to life.

06 Nov 15:02
MM: ZT told he'd place the money in the cubbyhole.

06 Nov 14:58

SR asks if MM was expecting money.

MM says he also wanted money for his part in the job. No discussion about how much but I thought it would be around R5000.

06 Nov 14:56

MM: I called ZT to tell him those guys are looking for gloves.

SR: When did you find this out?

MM: I got a call on Saturday from MQ who said they'd need gloves so they won't need fingerprints.

06 Nov 14:55
MM: MQ phoned me at 19:00 looking for ZT. I said I would try to get hold of him. MQ said they were meant to meet up but didn't.

06 Nov 14:53

MM was aware they were a couple.

MM: Zola said he would take them to a restaurant.

06 Nov 14:51
MM: From 17:00 onwards, we started contacting each other. I'm not sure of the times.

06 Nov 14:50
MM: On the Saturday I got there at 11:30. Had telephonic conversation with ZT.

06 Nov 14:49
MM didn't know how many people would be involved in hit. Says his role was to make sure ZT and MQ meet.

06 Nov 14:46
MM: ZT told me the person who wanted someone killed was not from here. He was from overseas. He said it's not the first time this guy wanted to do this here in SA but he wants it to look like a fake hijacking.

06 Nov 14:45
MM: ZT then told me he had to go with the man to change dollars into rands. He also said the man didn't want to go to legitimate places because he was evading tax and that the money would be used to pay the people who would do the job.

06 Nov 14:43

SR: What happened then?

MM: They had spoke. I could not hear what the man was saying. I could only hear ZT say "I'm coming. I'm coming". When ZT ended conversation he said the man doesn't trust him.

06 Nov 14:42
MM: ZT said he met these people at the airport. It's the man who wants his wife killed. ZT's phone rang while we were chatting. He said here is the man we are talking about. I can say now who he was talking about.

06 Nov 14:40
Remember ZT said though that SD told him he wanted a business partner killed.

06 Nov 14:38
MM: I asked him why he was looking for a hitman. He said there was a couple...the husband wanted the lady killed.

06 Nov 14:37
In Khayalitsha they met with ZT at the garage at 14:30. MM got into his car there.

06 Nov 14:36
MM says he told MQ that ZT would be meeting them in Khayalitsha. They waited there together for ZT but MM would have to leave at 13:30.

06 Nov 14:35
SD seems calmer today. Less jittery.

06 Nov 14:34

SR asks how MM knew about the meeting.

MM says he got a phone call from ZT that morning to say ZT was coming. ZT said "I don't know Abongile. You know Abongile, so we can meet to discuss"

06 Nov 14:32
MM: We went back to hotel. ZT said we'd talk about this some other time. After Zola  left, I phoned Abongile (MQ) to tell him that I worked with this guy for a long time and that we could trust him.

06 Nov 14:30

MM: He said we shouldn't talk about this over the phone and we should meet.

SR: Did he say the job would be done?

MM: He said he had no problem doing it.

06 Nov 14:26
MM was asked about payment for hit. He didn't know at that stage. He asked ZT and he was told R15 000.

06 Nov 14:25

MM said he didn't think MQ would do the job himself.

MM: He came from a decent background and attended the Model C schools.

06 Nov 14:24
MM: I told him that he is looking for a hitman. ZT was at reception at this point. We moved from reception to room because there were people who could understand Xhosa there and they'd know we were talking about getting a hit man.

06 Nov 14:22

MM says he then phoned MQ from the cordless phone.

MM: I told him there's a guy [ZT] who is looking for someone to do a job. He asked what kind of job.

06 Nov 14:20
MM: We then moved back into the office. In the office I took out my phone and phone belonging to hotel. ZT was standing next to me at this point.

06 Nov 14:19
MM: He asked if I know someone who's a hitman. "There's someone looking for a hit man," he said. I said I'm not familiar with that kind of thing.
